Mirror moves to the side instead of dipping in reverse.

I’m assuming this is user error but when I put the switch the passenger side mirror and go into reverse the mirror adjusts away from the car instead of looking down towards the curb and doesn’t budge when I try to adjust it back in to see where I’m reversing. When I start going it resets to the wrong driving position too. I’ve done multiple resets of the car so it shouldn’t have any stuff saved on it that I didn’t do. Do I have to somehow manually save the mirror positions? Thanks

There are 2 mirror positions
1. Normal
2. Reverse
How it should work: your mirror is always in 'normal', until you put the Reverse and the mirror adjustment is on the passager side.
If doings this goes to a weird position, you adjust in a way that you see the curb and that's it.

I might be a bit late to this one.
My polo was in a crash a month after I had it and had to have a new wing mirror.
All fixed fine but when I got it I noticed the glass was not in the right place at normal rest.
Tried moving around with the electronic controls and couldn’t get it to sit right. Realised that you can move with your hand gently to get the right star position, then will work just fine. That was over a year ago.
