Where does the wire go for rear dash cam?

I've managed to get the front dashcam installed on my gf's 65 plate GTi (6C) and now in the process of trying to get the rear one installed. And I'm looking at it and thinking...how the heck's this going to work?!
If the rear cam is installed at the top of the rear windscreen, then it's not too far from the rear edge of the roof trim above the rear windscreen when the boot is closed (approx 8-10cm). However, if the cable is routed to there, then when the boot is opened, it creates quite a sizeable gap between the cam and where the cable would exit from the trim (approx 28-30cm). This would necessitate a big loop of cable that would be needed to bridge the gap when the boot was opened - and this extra cable would be clearly visible when the boot was closed.
I've tried to show this in pic form in case my ramblings are unclear:
I was wondering if the cable could be threaded into the boot itself somehow (so that the point it exited the bodywork/trim was actually on the boot lid itself), but it looks like it's all metal and even if I managed to get it threaded in, there's no way for it to come out in order to attach it to the cam.
For those who have mounted a rear cam in their Polo, where did you route the cable? Do you have to put up with a big loop of cable while the boot is closed?
