I've just got a 6c GTI (may have seen my previous posts before buying one) and a absolutely love it.

I've fitted a custom cat back exhaust which sounds great, bit of drone at low rpms so I'm taking it back next month to get that sorted, but otherwise I love the little thing.

I'm already tempted to go revo stage 1 (bit concerned over the dsg reliability but oh well), and so would get the intake upgraded at the same time. Anyone had the stage 1 done? Is it noticeable and worth it? Especially with the dsg - the limited torque from factory makes me thing that a stage 1 would feel quite a bit quicker.

Also, maintenance wise, what have any of you done to make sure the car is healthy with the map? More regularly oil changes? Anything else?

Other than that I'm thinking of maybe some lowering springs as the 3dr sits quite high and hopefully should improve handling a little bit. Any recommendations or thoughts?

I'd like to put some decent tyres on too. What's everyones thoughts on the best set for these? I've only had bad wheelspin in the wet but if I go for more power I'd like to make sure it can put it down.

Other than that is there any other recommended mods? New to the VAG and polo scene so I'm learning 🙂

Hi mate,

I’m not one for modding, there’s a lot of users on here that will be able to help with that but tyres gets raised a lot.

I’ve just replaced my Bridgestone S001’s with Michelin Pilot Sport 4’s and they do feel a whole lot better (ATS Euromaster had a sale when you bought 4 michelin tyres which might be worth checking out). & Goodyears get mentioned a lot as well.

Hi Jerry.

Made me smile reading your post as your enthusiasm for your car shines through. Ive had my 6c GTI for over 3 years and never tire of it.

Like Plymouth A, I'm not big on modifying but have had some experience of re mapping. In the past I've used Revo and Celtic Tuning and both delivered a good result and service, however I've decided not to remap the Polo as I felt the hassle with insurance, challenge with traction/grip and the constant worry over the clutch was not worth it on a car that is already pretty quick. Mines the manual so already has 236lb/ft torque and although uprated clutches are available' I don't want the £1000 + bill hanging over me. With another 25lb/ft torque and a lot more BHP you would certainly notice the performance and although I know you said you suggested it wasn't a show stopper, I would be very careful as your's is the DSG - I'm not aware of any DSG upgrades you could do and things will get very expensive it it goes bang. Both Revo and Celtic state their software is designed to deliver results within manufacturer tolerances but I'm not convinced this is the case in the real world when you take into account existing wear and tear. For example, Celtics stage 1 for the Manual GTI increases torque by 84lb/ft to a huge 320lb/ft which IMHO would easily overwhelm the standard clutch and relatively narrow 215 tyres

Hi

I'm on the other side of the fence and have modded the crap out of mine.

i've had it over 5 years now and have modded/changed most parts of the car.

would say be very careful doing any sort of mapping on the dsg as it not the best dsg box. A company called TVS do a setting change to help but don't how being as i have a manual and avoided the dsg.

lowering springs i have the eibach pro kit fitted to mine and it lowered it just enough for me (about 25mm) and feel it actually improved the ride by being lest harsh over bumps etc.

Tyres seems to always come back to the Michelin Pilot sport 4 being the tyre of choice and a second mention about the goodyear asymetric 5.

Regarding other mods its really up to you where you want to take it. Better brakes are where i'd start (rear goes light under heavy braking imho)

If you have the performance pack, do you need to change anything for the adaptive suspension if you just change the springs?

I'm still in two minds about a map just because of the gear box, but I'd like to sort the suspension and brakes out. I've never played with the brakes but I've read on here someone saying that you need to play with the ecu to stop the abs playing up with aftermarket brakes - is that true?

Also, as mentioned above about insurance, who've you gone with? I asked adrian flux about the cost for just a remap exhaust and air filter and it was 3x my standard premium with admiral. Seems quite high.

Such a shame it's a dry clutch. This car would be perfect with a bit more torque.

I'll have to look at the new polo when I eventually this one. Hopefully they're a bit more bulletproof...

yeah i have the performance pack and nothing else needs to be done if just changing the springs.

I've got the seat leon cupra R brakes fitted and have no issues with braking/ABS but it has helped settle the rear.

i'm with adrian flux and pay £500 for the year all mods declared with 350bhp but insurance varies so much its meaningless imho

yeah more torque is always a bonus as it does make it feel faster.

imho the new polo has just gone too far now in regards size and 5 door only that you may as well just get a golf
