I attach below two photos of the lighter socket in the front dash of our 2001 Polo.
I have two main questions:
1. Which replacement part do I need?
2. Do I need a special extractor tool to remove the old lighter socket?
The lighter socket seems to be broken (see image below) as we cannot plug in our USB hub or the original lighter plug and I am reading about on google saying that in order to remove it I need a special tool to remove it.
I have found a few of these tools for sale on eBay, but they are between 50-75GBP which IMHO is a bit expensive for a "simple" replacement which I will only use once.
Before I take it to a dealer or mechanic I want to make sure that there is no other way to extract the lighter socket and replace with a new one. I will weigh up what a mechanic will charge me against buying an actual replacement tool (as long as I find the right one!).
I have found a replacement lighter socket here: https://www.euspares.co.uk/parts/dpa/13610892
TIA for any advice or links you can share with me.
Changing the lighter with replacement - which one - also special tool needed?

Re: Changing the lighter with replacement - which one - also special tool needed?
My 12v socket has a dodgy connection. Probably a loose wire or bent connector that I can fix myself.
Did you have any luck with removing the socket with or without specialised tools?

I had a similar issue. Using basic tools, I removed the socket, found a loose wire, and fixed it easily.Magic 8 ballpindab0ter wrote: ↑Sun Feb 07, 2021 12:40 am My 12v socket has a dodgy connection. Probably a loose wire or bent connector that I can fix myself.
