map reading lights

hi all
my sons 2002 polo map reading lights wont switch off...the bigger light works as it should coming on with the doors open etc and it can be switched on and off with the switch but the 2 map reading lights (1 either side of the unit) are on all the time, pressing their on off switch's have no effect whatsoever. Any ideas people?
