Polo 6n2 cam cover assembly

Hi I own a polo 6n2 16v 2001 I changed the cam cover but I seem to keep knocking the tappets of when fitting the cover I’ve tried all different ways also it turns over very slowly with a charged battery does this indicate a bent vale or vales not opening thanx
