Finally been put on the vehicle insurance at work (don't ask me how it works, exactly), and so am now allowed to drive all those wondrous dubs!

First off, I nabbed a New Polo 1.9TDi sport, and was a little disappointed I'm afraid to say. The diesel engine was just so rough and LOUD! Not only that, the car doesn't have a lot of 'get up and go', although there is a hefty shove in the back, once you get her rolling. Sorry lads, just my opinion, please don't take it the wrong way.

Anyways, later on, I got to take a 150bhp Golf TDi for a spin and was gobsmacked...those baby's are lethal! Still got that horrible rough diesel groan to it (although that's a matter of taste, I'm sure), but once the turbo kicks in higher up the rev range, it's like a cricket bat to the chest! It really takes off! Couldn't stop grinning flooring it in 2nd out of junctions, getting nowhere, with the front wheels scrambling for grip!

And just to compare the diesel GTI to the petrol variant, I took out a 180bhp 1.8T anniversary in the afternoon and resulted in collapsed lungs! Bit unfair I know, but these baby's go like stink...and sound nice at the same time!

Oh, and to end it all off, I tried out a Polo 1.2 55bhp...oh hang on, that would be mine. Took off from work in it and thought there was something wrong...it felt so slow!

All in all, a rather pleasant day at the office!

Doh, wish I could go back in time...I wish I'd put a different title thread now.

Diesel owners...please do not be offended by what I put...I only drove the diesel polo for a couple of mins...I'm sure it's an awesome machine out-of-town!

A little off topic, but I had a 1.2 3pot polo for a couple of days last week... Not very fast (sorry ) but the engine sounded fantastic!

Diesels are an awkard one, and its a debate that will go on for ever!

It all depends what your after, some people don't mind the noise if it makes thier £25 last longer.

People that don't drive outside town really wouldn't see most of he benefits of a high BHP car either, as the large Nm's of torque suit low speed overtaking betting.

No problem Josh...my car's dog slow! Although I like to think it picks up nicely, it's got NO power higher up the rev range. In contrast, you have to redline my sister's 1.o Lupo to get the kick.

And yes, the lil' 3 pot does have a bit of character to it!

I must admit that inner-city driving is fun in the 1.2. I was impressed by it's innitial acceleration (it just gets a little breathless at the top of the rev range)

It's good that you're getting 55bhp from a 1.2 engine though... My MK4 1.4 8v only had 60bhp as standard (although it had 80 something lb/ft of torque)

Yeah, I know what you mean but you get a grin at 2000rpm. I got mine for the MPG, can't complain really.
