Can someone clarify that the facelift gets the DQ381 7speed DSG?

DQ380 ! The DQ381 is for AWD with Haldex

If I am talking about the correct gearboxes.

The Dry clutch 7 Speed DSG was torque limited and used in the Previous generation 2015-2017. This limited torque to 184lbs ft, I believe, whilst manual of the time could handle with 236 lbs ft of torque

The 6 speed DSG in Pre-facelift GTI (2018-2021) was the wet clutch (as previously used in Mk 7 Golf GTI) and this handled torque of 236 lbs ft

The facelift 7speed DSG is likely to be the wet clutch (again prev used by mk 7.5 Golf) and again it is handling 236 lbs ft of torque.

I am not the best person to comment on modifications but I believe the wet clutches can take remapped power (reasonable amount), but from what I am told the best thing if you do a remap is to also do a DSG Gearbox tune to get drivetrain in harmony and fully use extra power.

I am sure someone else will be able to confirm. Apologies if this is not what you wanted to know

@AndyGTi that summary is pretty much what my understanding was and that ultimatley other than the extra gear theres probably not much (noticable) in it.

Well the DSG 7 Wet takes a bit more place and it's heavier than the DSG 6 Wet. Guess we have still some room on the MQBA0 platform =d

Both of them allow up to 600nm of torque without upgrading the cogs according to specialists , just the remap would be enough.

The dry DSGs are for regular car ... Up to 1.5 TSI or regular TDI ones ... Simple as that, the Polo R line/R exclusive with the 1.5 TSI has the DSG7 dry one.

Tyres - I noticed this was on Michelin Primacy 3 tyres. bit of a change from Bridgstone rubbish.

That's a shame - I don't understand how can they put a cheap tyre on a supposedly performance car. Michelin Primacy 3 comes standard on budget french hatchbacks.
I had the same tyre size on my Mini Cooper S and it made little sense to put anything but high end tyres, as the prices were pretty much the same for that dimension.

VW will be looking to put the cheapest tyres on the GTI that they consider to be appropriate for the car, irrespective of whether or not they’re a performance tyre .

@airwolf Many Congratulations, that is great news.
Looking back through thread I see you ordered 2 weeks before Christmas, so allowing for week after Christmas, that was 3 weeks and if you are picking up in 2weeks then that looks like week 20 of 2022.

So around 23 weeks in total. (Incl 8weeks approx transit following build).

Hopefully that will cheer up lots of others on here

The build quality of my last GTI (a 2016 Spanish built previous generation car) was also better than the build quality of my current model GTI+ too.

I had a 2015 model. In some respects I miss the simplicity of the car.
I sold it to an Evesham dealership and now see it being driven around Stratford-upon-Avon. Looks like a retired gentleman has bought it.
Oh and just had an update, car has confirmed build of week 24.
Ordered in January with unconfirmed of April, then May then August but now thankfully sooner in June.

That’s pretty good compared to the very long wait you had for your current car, and much better than the current lead time of 12-14 months for a mk8 performance Golf.

Your news made me check in with my dealer and apparently mine has confirmed build week of 24 as well.
Annoyingly they didn’t send a screenshot but you would hope that use of the word “confirmed” means it’s moved on from status 10 to 20. So that would push arrival in UK into August and then you have the old Reg or new reg quandary.

That quandary is something only you can decide , assuming your dealer would be prepared to delay registering the car until September if it arrived in early August (I think most dealers would be happy to). I had no choice as my car arrived in September back in 2020, so it was a ‘70 plate. Buying a private plate would have been the other option, but I’m not into the whole personalised registration plate thing, so wouldn’t ever have one.

Historically, when we used to have the once a year registration plate change in August, I’ve taken delivery of new cars on 1st of August as there was something a bit special about having one of the first cars with the new registration plate. However, with the current registration plate format and the twice yearly changes, IMHO I don’t think that ‘special feeling’ applies anymore. Also, views change and nowadays if given the choice, I’d prefer my car to be ‘anonymous’ and not be noticed as one of the first with the new registration.

If you’re considering what impact the difference of a ‘22 plate or a ‘72 plate might have on the car’s value; if you’re buying it outright, delaying getting it registered until September might be something to consider as a car on a ‘72 plate might be worth a few hundred £’s more than an equivalent car a month older on a ‘22 plate. However, whether on a ‘22 or a ‘72 plate, it’ll still be a 2022 registered car. If you’re leasing or PCP’ing and intending on handing the car back at the end of the PCP term, then the impact of old / new registration plate on value isn’t really an issue.

These days, I think that if it arrived in early August, I’d not delay taking delivery until September. However as said above, only you can decide.
