Buying a new head unit, a bit of help needed

Post by donutwagen »

Hi everyone! This is my first post here.

I recently bought a 2002 Polo 9N, and I would like to install a new head unit. The ones im looking at right now are 1 DIN units from brands like JVC, Kenwood and Pioneer, probably with DAB. My budget is around 100-120 euros so those are the good ones available in my price range.

Currently my car has the Blaupunkt Essen CD31 unit installed. I've been doing a bit of research and have found out that I'll need an adapter (or a splitter) to use DAB radios, like this one: https://www.amazon.de/dp/B06XHW8Y2T/ref ... UTF8&psc=1, and I'd also need an adapter that converts ISO to DIN: https://www.mediamarkt.at/de/product/_h ... 03994.html.

But in some places I've also read that I might need some other adapters as well? Like for the 14-pin connectors on the back of the head units? I'm a bit confused regarding this.

And people generally say that most 1 DIN units should be compatible with the car but is it the case that some require more parts than the others? Or are their designs fairly standard?

Some help regarding this would be really appreciated! (And also I'll take 1 or 2 DIN head unit recommendations if anyone has any, considering my price range.)

Finally, I'm not from the UK, even though I'm posting here. I live in Austria but I like this forum and have found many helpful posts from here so I thought to post here. I hope that is ok!

Thank you all! :)
