So, the cover arrived today, 14 days after ordering & does have a VW badge.

Came with no instructions so had to hunt around to find where the bracket goes. Item 6 in the image below was an bolt requiring a 10mm socket to remove. The cover came with a Torx screw but I reused the bolt.

I'm still half convinced there was one there originally, but the lack of the additional bracket pretty much means there can't have been!
