Noticeable 'Dunk' noise when braking for junction / speed bumps

Just noticed this the other day... originally thought it was a suspension noise from the front left when turning but then realised i only appear to hear it when moving slowly and braking for junctions or speedbumps etc.

Any ideas? Probably need to monitor a bit more, sounds like a low thud type of noise not metal or a creak.

Has your car recently had new front brake pads?

When my previous generation Polo GTI was new, I used to get a ‘clunking’ noise from the front of the car when applying the brakes at slow speeds and then coming to a stop (e.g. in slow moving stop-go traffic). The noise was attributed to the normal free movement of the front brake pads in the calipers. It only happened during the first few weeks of ownership - the noise stopped once the brakes had bedded in. Other previous generation GTI owners experienced it too when their cars were new.

I did notice the noise you are describing on my old 9n3 polo.

This noise seems a little louder and I haven't noticed it before, does appear to be mainly at slower speeds though. (brake pads unchanged since I have had the car...about 4 weeks now).

I'll have to spend some more time seeing if i can replicate it, the car seems totally fine other than that.

Okay so it's nothing to do with the brakes. It sounds like a suspension clunk, the KW V1 springs and shocks are all less than 10k miles so can't imagine its those. Guess i'll have to get someone to look at it, only done about 500miles since buying it

think it could be a tie-rod - will VW cover this with modified suspension? (still under warranty)

Update: maybe it is the brakes so hard to tell. Any reliable none p*** taking independent garages in the east midlands that come recommended?

Took it to a mechanic. They drove it and supposedly had it on the ramp (although I wasn’t around to witness it).

Anyway - ‘couldn’t find or hear owt’

So drove home, hooned it a bit rounded a corner and down a straight bit of road did a bit of hardish braking and straight away a ‘dunk’ coming from underneath somewhere.

Cool.
