Timing belt being replaced at 19K miles

Post by jhibbs93 »

Hello all,

I'm a newbie to the forums, so thanks for having me and apologies if this is a duplicate thread.

My other half started up her 2018 1.0 95PS Polo (registered July 2018) this morning to a horrific rattling noise... I can only describe it as the sound of a pneumatic drill, it sounded absolutely awful. Popped the bonnet, nothing obvious (to the untrained eye...) so I phoned up the trusty independent VW/Audi Specialist garage and they advised not to drive it. We got it recovered to the garage.

On inspection, they found that there was a loose bolt and it has damaged the timing belt and tensioner, but fortunately the engine remains in good working order. We've been quoted ~£900 for the parts to be replaced, but luckily it's covered under the extended warranty we purchased from Peter Vardy when we bought the car last February.

Has anybody else experienced such a fault at such low mileage/age?

TIA.

The exact details of the failure are not clear in your post or this other but sounds similar?
I have heard of some cases this has happened but not too many,or enough for vw to take action with a recall , they probably just deal with each case individually
