Hi everyone.
I have recently bought a 2005 Polo, 1.4 Petrol & have noticed a few little things with it.
Firstly, the bite is fairly high but manageable 99% of the time, the only issue I’m having with it is when reversing. Is this a common theme? I was looking at getting my clutch cable adjusted to see if I could lower the bite at all. Does anybody know whether the clutch cable is self adjusting in this mark polo?
Secondly, I noticed the coolant level had dropped a fair bit after doing around 300 miles or so in the car. I topped it back up & went as normal, i’m hoping this is only going to be an air bubble trapped in the system which has burst. I’m planning on draining & flushing the coolant myself & then refilling with fresh coolant.

The coolant will normally get replaced when the cambelt etc including the coolant pump are replaced, which is every 4 or 5 years ideally.
When last did the coolant pump get replaced?
Maybe it is where the coolant is leaking from - it is hidden under the cambelt covers.

As far as i’m aware the cambelt & water pump haven’t been replaced. I’m on 93k miles at the min so its due. I might top it up & run the car for 10 or so mins static and see if I can see any leaks underneath

Well, I've never played Russian Roulette with any of the 1.4 16V petrol engined cars I've owned or used - I'd think that you are playing a tricky game with that car.

Would you recommend getting the clutch & timing belt replaced before they inevitably go? Or play the waiting game
