6r polo gearbox kfk or mzl

Hello all,
I have a 13 plate 1.6tdi SEL polo 6r 110k

After going to the garage recently for a service our mechanic informed us that the gearbox was leaking past the seals and the diff bearings were shot (although the box has no discernable whine). After ringing around to get some quotes for the gearbox refurb which came in between 1k and 2k OUCH!
we've decided look into the option of a straight swap out for a certified low mileage box from a breaker. I have found one with 20k miles on it, but the code is KFK and the sticker in the boot says MZL. now alot of the adverts are saying KFK/MZL does this mean that they are the same or interchangeable?

Thanks in advance

Some gearboxes are designed for cars with i.e. bluemotion technolgies or a dual mass flywheel. So you clutch will not fit all the time and the gear ratios might differ between gearbox codes.

Hi Exact same problem! I need a PHB or that's what is on mine but there's an RTE available. Mines bluemotion, start stop manual 5 speed. IDC if the gear ratios are different. They won't be out by much i don't think. The fitment looks the same. But the phb is twice as much as the rte! I'm asking around some scrapyards for the exact one...

I've messaged a couple of breakers and they tell me that the mzl and kfk are identical.
I've asked gearbox specialists, but they either don't answer my questions or are reluctant to commit to saying 'yes they're the same'
So in a bit of a fix

Well I now have a 2015 1.4 tdi 75ps Polo with an RTE gearbox, that had a PHB thanks to my local VW specialist who fitted what I provided. The box came from an identical spec car apart from it was BMT and mine is just blumotion, and a couple of years older. The gearboxes looked identical though. Somewhat reluctant regarding the flywheel dual mass to single mass conversion but eventually all is well as I had the right kit from VW thanks to somebody on here posting the part number.

I had a faulty flywheel and that led to damage to the gearbox which then needed replacing. Anyway, I'm back on the road, bit lighter in the wallet but such is life...
