Polo Gti 1.4tsi (180bhp) Key stuck in the ignition

Hi all,

hoping someone can help me here. A few weeks ago, my key got stuck in the ignition. (Wont do final rotate in order to release the key). After having a look around, it appeared the solenoid at the back of the housing was very hot, but manually pressing it in would release the key. I therefore replaced the housing including the solenoid and this fixed it until now.

The replaced solenoid is again getting very warm and the key wont come out of the ignition!!! I am now out of ideas. If anyone has had a similar problem or knows what it may be, that would be a great help. It sounds like an electrical fault of some sort.

Cheers

What do you mean by 'key housing'? The part of the ignition lock that bolts on to the steering column?

6R gti is always DSG. Manual doesn't have the solenoid.

Could it be some issue with the gear lever not registering P position?

I am having the same issue currently. Did u solved it? Can i know how?
Same car, polo gti 6r. When measured, the connector to the solenoid is shorted thus it keeps supplying 12v to activate the solenoid. Right now i disconnected the connector as temporary solution
