Quick question. What is the most amount of fuel I could fit in my tank?
Now I know it is listed as 45L so this should be the maximum right?
Reason I am asking is that I filled up at Asda fuel station today and it took over 49L?? This is just till it clicked off. I never brim it.
The fuel light had illuminated about 20 miles previous and had a range showing of 60. I wouldn't normally leave it till the light comes on and usually fill up just before when it usually takes around 37. However I was on a long journey home on the motorway in poor conditions and knew It would get me home OK.
The car is a 1.2 TSI 2016 45k

Re: Fuel Tank Capacity
The nominal capacity is as you say 45L.
The tank does have a higher capacity but the extra volume is to allow for worst case expansion without overflow on a very hot day.
By stating a lower nominal capacity the car makers seek to absolve themselves from responsibility should an “overfilled” tank explode or expel fuel under extreme climatic conditions.
I think the practice started in the 1950s when car ownership became possible for the working man who was assumed to be too dim to act with prudence.
