Drivers Assistance Pack Anomoly

I have recently placed an order for R-Line 1.0 95PS DSG7 for my wife.
Because she wants the Lane change system side assist I have ordered the Drivers Assistance pack.
Only after placing the order and scrutinising the specification I find that the Front and Rear Parking
Sensor option has been removed and the 3 items in the Drivers assistance pack added.

In fact if you use the VW web site and build your Polo. When you reach the options section before
selecting the Drivers assistance pack check the standard spec Front and Rear parking sensors are listed.
When you select the Drivers assistance pack and go back into the standard spec Front and Rear Parking
Sensors have been lined through. It does this without advising of any change.

I have emailed VW UK and the Dealer and cannot get a straight answer to the following.
By selecting the Drivers assistance pack do the Front and Rear Parking sensors work in the normal way
both audio and graphics in the display or have those features been removed.

Any advice would be appreciated.

I thought that front and rear PDC were standard on the R-line polo.
What did the pictures show after you configurated the car?

Probably because of the package the single selection of PDC is not possible

After configuration the picture displays the standard 4 sensors front and back on the bumpers plus the additional two on each side by the front and rear wheel arches. The point is these would be required by the Park assist function anyway (parallel parking). Its whether the standard parking functionality remains when parking forward or reversing into a bay.

Then I would't worry too much.
With the PLH (parklenkhilfe) the front and rear PDC has to be fitted to work properly.

Congrats on your purchase!

@rowberme; I’ve always thought that front, rear and side sensors were part of the Park Assist function which forms part of the optional Driver Assistance Package.

If you watch some of the YouTube videos of VW’s Park Assist in operation, you can hear the front / rear parking sensors of the car being parked bleeping when another parked vehicle or immobile object in front or behind is detected by the front / rear sensors. Where the infotainment screen is visible in these videos, they show the Park Pilot overhead (bird’s eye view) image of vehicle and the coloured proximity bars in front / behind the vehicle image to indicate the distance from the objects triggering the sensor’s bleeping noise.

I’m assuming that parking sensors have been crossed through in the list of standard equipment on VW’s configurator, as when the Driver Assist Package is spec’d they’re probably then considered to be part of an extra cost option rather than part of standard equipment.

If you want reassurance that Park Assist does include front and rear sensors, why not ask your dealer to demonstrate Park Assist to you. I’d be surprised if they don’t have at least one car on their premises - either a demonstrator or a used car for sale - with Park Assist. It doesn’t necessarily need to be a Polo; I’d expect Park Assist functionality to be essentially the same across all VW models.

A word of caution when using Park Assist; when parallel parking it’ll use the vehicles either side of the intended parking space as reference points when manoeuvring your car into position. So if those vehicles have parked badly (e.g. wheels mounting the pavement or wheels brushing the kerbstone), you may end up with damaged tyres or scuffed alloys as Park Assist attempts to park your car in a similar manner. Always be ready to intervene if necessary.
