New actuator for a 2013 1.2 tsi ( and maybe turbo )

Hi , im looking for a new actuator for my 2013 1.2 TSI polo and possibly the turbo?
Iv been getting the engine management light on every now again , i'v had the car looked at - at a garage late last year and the guy thinks it could be the actuator or worse the turbo
but while he had the car it run perfectly fine ( sods law )
he reset the EM light while he had it - but it's starting to "actup" more often now ( only yesterday the EPC light came on and the car went into limp mode )

So time to do something about the issue :(

Can any one help find the actuator i need please ( it's a mind field out there not knowing what i need )
and might as well have link to the turbo too if worse comes to worse
I have someone lined up to change the parts ( im not paying garage prices )

Car , 2013 polo 1.2 tsi R-line ( remapped )

I thought, just from reading threads on forums, that the turbo fitted to this age of Polo/Ibiza/Fabia/A1, could not get a new actuator fitted at least in a VW Group workshop, and that VW Group did not sell replacement actuators - so if that is true, then you would need to get a proper turbo repairer to source and fit a new actuator, if that is what the problem is, with your VW Group factory fitted turbo.

The simple reason for this is, I think, that VW Group have considered that it is not worth their or their dealership workshops time, to have the skill and equipment to replace that part on a turbo - but turbo repairers should be able and willing to do that for you.

Volkswagen won’t sell actuator as it’s usually calibrated to turbo. There’s quite a lot of work to set that up with specialised tools. You can test actuator with a vacuum pump. Also if actuator gone, then turbo usually not far behind it with carbon build up. Try turbo-diesel.co.uk site. I bought new Garrett turbo direct from factory, not refurbished part from my A4 Allroad. Half the price of a main dealer.

If you have access to VCDS clear all codes afterwards.

Thanks all , so it's better off trying to find a new/recon turbo?
going to give Turbo diesel a ring on Monday and see if their can help , but going off the website am looking at close to £500 for a new one or £350 recon "roughly"
the garage quoted me £450 for the actuator and about £600 for the turbo + actuator
IT's going to cost roughly £100 for a mates - mate to fit what ever i find!!
might as well get the garage to do the work , if there's any issues at least i can take back to the garage.
Yea it's roughly an extra £150 more , but then i know the garage will find the right part i need / plus the warranty / plus the a headache i could do with out !! lol in trying to fine the parts.

The new turbos from Turbo-diesel (Bosch/Mahle) for 1.2 petrol come with 2 year warranty. It’s such an involved job and my car was a keeper so I went down the new turbo route. I’m sure the reconditioned turbos are fine. Depends what you want and your budget.

Their communication could be better and from memory I was around 10 days or so before part was despatched. That was last year, maybe just a supply issue?

Hello,

Kind suggestion before you proceed on changing the whole turbo .
Do a smoke test.
Also buy an OBD11 or other diagnostic tool to see for yourself the faults that pop up.

The light could be popping up for several reasons. The air intake loss fault could be poppin up for several reasons .

One example is my case (see my thread) other weird case for example is the engine mount below the battery going bad and causing the air intake to be moving and causing air intake loss.
It could be several things . So if i were you i would 100% a smoke test with a good smoke machine like bosch, that does not harm the engine etc.

I had the same suggestion from several workshops, to change the turbo , a 1.500 euro job and the problem was a 25 euro fault.

The pipe is just hanging loose

It seems to be open is that where the pipe from the air intake goes?
Having said that I tried to remove it , it has shot off and I can't find it ( lost in the engine bay)
Is the car safe to drive? to the garage and get them to look at it

It's just a little non return valve, it won't cause any issues for driving. Other than it's letting oil mist out of the crankcase. It's a "known problem" on the 1.2Tsi CBZ engines they are just flimsy and not up to the job. I replaced mine 3-4 years back and it's been fine since. I just check it once in a while.

Crankcase breather (030 103 175) Around £18. Yup that is daylight robbery for a piece of plastic!!
Rubber Grommet (03F 103 038) Around £1.50
Genuine parts cost

Judging by the amount of oil around yours. It looks to have been like that for quite a long time.

Yes it is the result of bad design along with careless mechanics when changing the air filter. Bad combination

you say it won't cause any issues , how ever i still have the issues above where the EPC light come on from time to time if i put my foot down ( i was told it could be the actuator or turbo )
could this not be the issue for the EPC kicking in ?

I wouldn't have thought so. As I said mine was also broken for a while and I didn't have any issues. As it's a cheap and easy fix personally I'd do it anyway it can't hurt to replace it and you might just get lucky. I noticed mine while it was just badly cracked no completely snapped like yours appears to be.

I wouldn't have thought so. As I said mine was also broken for a while and I didn't have any issues. As it's a cheap and easy fix personally I'd do it anyway it can't hurt to replace it and you might just get lucky. it's in the garage now , it was booked in for rear calliper not working ( hopefully just the cable ) and iv ask them to have a look at the pipe issue.
Fingers crossed it is the fault that is causing the EPC as i was about to book it in for a replacement actuator at just over £400

I'm a bit confused about what exactly is meant by "actuator" & it not being available as a part. My 2015 1.2 TSI 110 started throwing up intermittent EPC light recently & OBD11 gave a code of P334B00 (charge pressure actuator). That's this part tucked away at the back of the engine bay.

Google suggested the fault could be anything from a sticking pivot point on the turbo to a new actuator &/or turbo. Booked it into a local VW indie & luckily it was just sticking. So a couple of hours labour & all good. Must have been getting progressively worse before the fault code appeared as the car is now much more responsive.

Not sure if we're allowed promote indies but these guys are in Sudbury, Suffolk. Happy to provide details by PM if anyone wants them.

If you're here to make a fair suggestion about an independent workshop that does good work, please share.

Remember, the 1.2 TSI from 2013 with a timing chain and the 1.2 TSI from 2015, with a timing belt, are different engines.
