Do we need an adapter thingy for front aftermarket speakers to be fitted on the front of the 9N doors. Sorry about the weird english there.

Something like this I've seen -> Punch Here!

I was wondering if you actually need to have them.

Yep, you'll need the adaptor.

I think, what the adaptor does is allow you to install a standard set of sized speakers. I think thats 6.5" if i remember correctly.

Where-as, i think VW's will use a diff. size. So the adaptor just allows you to fit a common size without messing up the door card itself! :)

they are crap- even a good car audio dealer will tell you to make ur own out of mdf coz the plastic ones are crap. pop into BnQ and get some mdf, make it urself and compare with your mates who have plastic mounts

Okay, I think I got the idea - it's "crap".

But how would I make my own ones and why are they're craap? I wanna make it at least effort as possible as I don't wanna mess things up here.

the domensions of the speakers are illustrated on the box they come in. If your lucky the box will have cardboard cut outs to act as templates for the door adaptors. Little hint- do not buy huge 170mm speakers for your doors because they often come with a big magnet which is too big for the door. the back of the magnet can hit the plastic runner which guides the window up and down. If you have this problem thne u might need to have special moulds made(if not already available) this can be pricey.

Would a 16 or 16.5cm speakers be alright then?

Should be fine - if not use some thicker mdf to push it out a bit.

By a small piece of MDF and cut it into a O shape. The edge of the would should be between 1/2 and an inch thick. Screw this to your doors. Then put the speaker into the ring and screw it to the wood.

Easy. tools needed

1) Standard speaker (to take measurments from)
2) Jigsaw
3) Screws
4) sandpaper

Hmm sounds easy enough, but I can't do perfect circles. I remember doing one ages ago, which was rather wonky.

Why is thhis ring needed again?

If you can do perfect circles then you are deemed clinically insane.
Not worry about the finer details, the door wont mind

I see.... well I shall see when I can take the door off first and having a look.

But you mentioned about the basket hitting the window, so would a 16cm or 6" mid-range speaker be alright for the door then?

I am not the expert- more the trial and error guy but i can tell you now you wont be able to get Focal speakers in there- anything above Polyglass your gonna have problems with. K2ps dont fit- however other brands might have smaller magnets that do fit. Try Infinity, 17cm Infinities will fit and dont sound too bad.

Hehe mate, how do you know I've got Focal's in mind? Me wonders...

Anyway, can't quite afford them anyway. I was just gonna ask you guys about some recommendations then, I've got some JBLs in mind. Any good?

Or that Infitiy Reference stuff?

I really dunno what to get! There are so many different manufacturers!

They cost pretty much the same, have the same RMS of 90watts. Difficult choice here. I do have a 12" JBL sub though.
