Retro fit LED headlights

Hi guys

Apologies for being a newb, I wondered if there is a way of retro fitting the LED headlights from a GTI+ to a GTI or if the aftermarket ones were any good? If we buy one it will get used on dark country roads a lot and my wife prefers the vision of the headlights on my Golf R which has factory LED headlights.

It is possible - forum member @Scotty_boy VW retrofitted OEM LED headlamps to his Polo; not a GTI, but if it can be done in a non-GTI I dare say it can also be done in a GTI too.

Have a read of this discussion thread;

I’m assuming you’ve not got the car yet as you said “if we buy one”. Therefore, why not consider getting a GTI+ which has the LED headlamps as standard. It would save the bother of having to fit LED headlamps, and the GTI+ has a much better standard spec than the ‘non-plus’ version of the GTI.

From memory, the GTI+ gets the following items of equipment as standard over and above the GTI’s standard spec;
  • LED headlamps
  • Digital dash
  • Front centre armrest and storage bin under it
  • Keyless entry and push button start
  • Adaptive cruise control
  • Electrically folding door mirrors with dipping kerbside mirror function
  • 65% tinted glass from the B pillar backwards
  • Light and Sight Pack which comprises auto-dimming interior rear-view mirror, automatic headlights on, manual coming/automatic leaving home lighting function and rain sensor
