2008 TDI 1.4 Gearbox issue??

Hi all.
My polo 2008 TDI 1.4 is making a weird fault.
When driving and on lock it sounds like a driveshaft is about snap. It’s making a massive clunk noise underneath and wondering what issue it is.
I have put a new driveshaft on and the noise is still there. Driving the car on the ramp it seems the gearbox is trying to move more than it should.
Just wondering if anyone has had this fault before and if there is any known issues with the inner flanges for the driveshafts on the gearbox side?
The clutch also isn’t good so would the pressure plate cause this issue? I’ll be doing the clutch soon anyway.
The box is JHG according to the Vin.
Just looking for advice before I Chuck a second hand box in, thanks. Jake
