Water trapped in door

Hi, just checking my understanding about an issue I’ve encountered (and think I’ve fixed) with my 2015 Gti 5 door. Searched for solution on the forum but couldn’t find it, so perhaps this thread might help someone. After recent days of heavy rain, I found I could hear quite a lot of water sloshing around when I opened the offside back door. With the door open there was just a little water dripping slowly from the bottom front corner. After a bit of Googling around I figured that there was probably a drain hole there that might be blocked. So I poked a screwdriver inside it and water started pouring out (see photo). Once it had stopped the sloshing had gone. I poured a jug of water over the window and the water poured straight out of the drain hole.
I take it that water is supposed to run into the door where the window drops into it, and this is how it’s supposed to drain?
