SRGTD made a great suggestion of a thread for us newbies discovering things on our Polos. I though of a generic thread but many would not perhaps apply across the wide range of Polo version hence this one here.

All posts are welcome.. even this one embarrassingly referred to below...

I posted a thread earlier about only just discovering that there was a place to store the petrol/diesel cap after removing it from the filler cap.. there is a specific place: a hole built into the Flap (you have already opened) to put the pin, located on the end of the cap, in. Doh!

I'll sort the next tip out when i have a chance; I really disliked the volume of whatever I was playing, radio / personal music etc, going almost mute as soon as you selected reverse gear. Funnily enough the amount of times it happened at the best part of the track.. LOL. discovered you can set the volume lowering level or off from the Multi display unit via a slider. The default on mine was set to lower volume a lot. I set the level just a tad lower than existing level

This is going to be a learning experience for everyone I hope.

My android auto struggles to connect everything I plug my phone in? Any suggestions?

Also how do I open the petrol hatch?

By petrol hatch, presumably you mean the filler flap.

Assuming yes, if you press on the trailing edge of the filler flap (the left hand edge as you look at it), it should open. Car needs to be unlocked before the filler flap will open as the actuator pin that locks the flap works with the car’s central locking.

I discovered shortly after getting my car that unlike the previous four VW’s I’ve owned, with the AW Polo (and presumably the BZ facelift too) it isn’t necessary to put the windscreen wipers into the service position to be able to lift them away from the windscreen.

And it took me about 18 months before I discovered how to reset the trip recorder (my car has a digital instrument display so there’s no ‘reset’ button like there is in cars with conventional dials).

On this topic, I am keen to know if anyone else knows what this slot is used for?

Yes, that one I did know. I’ve never actually used the slot in my car.

Some models of the previous generation Polo had two slots for car park tickets; higher spec’s models didn’t get the ticket holder slots, as the space on the dashboard was used to accommodate additional switches for extra equipment on the car.

I wasn't aware of this neat filler cap storage spot and only discovered last night when I went check this out, that my filler flap does not lock on my 2019 Polo when I lock the car!.

That's not right, it should be closed when the car is locked
There is a rubber with the lockpin inside it.
It should come out a bit when locking the car.
Maybe it is stuck in open position?

Sounds like the fuel flap actuator may have failed; luckily with the locking pin in the ‘unlocked’ position. Quite a few instances on the mk7 Golf over the years of the locking pin getting stuck in the ‘locked’ position and owners only finding out when they were beside the pump at the filling station ready to refuel and the fuel filler flap wouldn’t open!

This is the place to adjust entertainment volume reduction when reversing
you may hve your favourite setting in the car setting section. let us know what you have set/discovered.

"Manoeuvre braking" - is that the "feature" that can make a DSG equipped car feel that glued to the spot when trying to move slowly?

I'm not a DSG driver, but now I've moved my daughter's Leon Cupra around my garage, I'm not impressed with DSG when driving up and down from ramps etc!

‘Manoeuvre braking’ is where the car with parking sensors detects an object when reversing and applies the brakes to stop you reversing into the object. I’m not sure but I think it may also activate if the car senses you’re about to drive into something during a forward manoeuvre.

The braking can be quite violent; some owners who’ve had the manoeuvre braking function activate while reversing have thought they’ve actually reversed into something and expected to find rear end damage when they got out of their car to check, only to (thankfully) find no damage.

Exactly! This frightened the life out of me when it first happened (driving forward fast to the rear of a stationary vehicle at an island expecting it to move off as it was clear and it didn't) and i didn't know the car had the feature.

For me it just "spoiled" my experience of moving a VW Group car with DSG, I'll need to move my friend's T-Roc with DSG to see if it is more "fluid" when moving from stop. This Leon Cupra, just loves to consume its rear brake pads, and that, it seems is just the way it is for similar cars like Golf R and S3.
