I must admit I don't like the warm tone tungsten type lamps of the interior of my Polo AW (I'm not currently interested in the exterior lighting)

There are many sellers saying they have Canbus compatible - so just wondering if anyone has had success or got around any difficulties fitting them.. error messages etc

Any LED w5w(interior light) and feston 37mm(makeup light) socket will work. No need for canbus in interior lamps, except in the trunk.
Same in my old car.

I bought a ton of different canbus w5w for the trunk that had glitchy connection, before replacing it with "WinPower Car Footwell Lighting for VW" from Amazon. Worked like a charm. Wish someone told me that before I did my modification.

Really appreciate a genuine piece of advice.
I had heard of the interior light being no problem but it was generic information.

I did some searching on replacing, or rather, how to remove the interior light fittings and recognise my front compartment fitting in front of the rear view mirror in the YT video at 4:19 https://youtu.be/ljkCvWQjoyo?t=259 (admittedly a Golf Mk7).

Was this the same routine on your Polo do you recall?

the one over the passenger rear is different to this video I think.. do you recall doing that and do the makeup light fittings come out easily too?

@grazuncle2 Yes it is the same for Polo, VW group share alot of common things among the models.

The trunk light and makeup light is pretty simple just place some plastic tool behind and pop it out gently.
You can Youtube that one too, if you are unsure. Tons of VW Golf videos that share the same lamp.

well.. the LEDs arrived labelled for each function/lamp and got it all done inc the trunk/hatch.

Not as simple as it looked... the hatch light came out easily but the bulb is not accessible without prising the metal shroud off! The metal is very thin it bends easily so be careful.. the tabs are indicated in orange in the photo and are the same the other side of the lamp.. after getting the metal free it was easy to replace the bulb.

when fitted and tested..trunk/hatch light.. The rear dome light was similarly awkward to get at..

There are tabs approximately near the marked blue lines.. you need a very thin screwdriver blade to get into the trim.. marked by a long blue line.. once you have an entry point you need a plastic trim lever to open it up... The bulbs were quite recessed inside and hard to pull out and I have thin fingers!!!! The front lights were not easy to get at either... the beige trim was supposed to come of but in the end the backing came off with it!... see video above in the threads for this but you start by prising in the blue line areas) vanity lights were a breeze.. pull out with a fingernail... and replace with a festoon type LED I put the car in the garage and took a few shots of the interior and is a good representation of the ambience..
I have to admit the results are very good... little to no heat compared to the Tungsten bulbs (the vanity light used to get VERY warm!..
Someone mentioned in a thread that they wished the lights faded like tungsten bulbs... but there is some fading on mine they don't just come on and go off in a millisecond.

No errors expected or received on the dashboard.
