Where is this? Is is top left of the engine in line with the spark plugs?

OK, I've found out that the cold start on a Polo GTI is measured by the thermo-sensor on the water pipe that goes into front right of the engine (as you look at the engine from the bonnet/grill). This is a 4 pin green socket with an electrical connector plug connected. There is also a black W shaped plastic sleeve holding two the pipes together that seems to hold in the green thermo-sensor.
Now, I've found this green socket and connector, but I am not sure how it comes out or if it is supposed too...
The connector can be taken off. But, does the green socket sensor plug into the hose or something else in hose?
If I take it out, is all the coolant going to flood out?
It looks like the green thermo-sensor is an adaptor plug that plugs into another hose socket in the pipe?!?!?
Can anyone tell me whether I can remove this green thermo-sensor adaptor easily? Thanks.
