085 gearbox rebuild
Hi, does anyone have a guide for dismantle, repair, re-assemble of the 085 gearbox? I need to replace the selector shaft (085 FFW box). Not having much luck with workshop manuals .com as it is not very stable or friendly to use.

Re: 085 gearbox rebuild
Hello mate, I’ve taken the same gearbox apart and removed the shaft as I had to take the shaft seal out and replace the one on my car. Long story short, the guy I had look at my gearbox cocked up replacing the shaft seal so it dropped all on the GB oil after a few days of running. It’s pretty easy and straight forward. Once you open up the box take a lot of pics so you put it back the same way. It doesn’t affect the gears as long as you don’t move them. You will need flange sealant, not sure what it is but it is black in colour, probably a standard sealer for metal/gearbox faces. I will get some pics and post them for you.

I haven’t worked on the 085 gearbox myself, but I’ve found YouTube to be super helpful for stuff like this—there are usually teardown videos that show each step pretty clearly. If the manuals you’ve found aren’t great, try browsing forums or even car-specific groups; sometimes people will share detailed guides or photos. I’ve had luck with those in the past when I was looking to fix up other parts. Also, if you’re still stuck, a dealer’s service manual could be worth checking out.
