VW Price Increase - 21st November 2024

I’ve just read on the Golf GTI forum that there’s to be a price increase from 21st November of between 0.5% - 3% depending on model. Price increase also applies to extra cost options, and there’ll be specific price increases on optional paint colours. So for anyone thinking of ordering a new Polo, maybe consider placing your order before 21/11/2024 if you want to avoid the increase. Link to the discussion topic on golfgtiforum.co.uk below;

The guy who posted this is a sales manager at a car leasing company (previously a sales manager at a large VW dealership), so he gets advance warning of price increases. The discussion topic at the link above mentions Golf-specific price changes as they’ve been posted on a Golf forum, but it’s confirmed in reply #8 in the discussion topic that Polo prices will also be increasing.
VW last increased their prices on the Golf from 1st September. I don’t know if it was a Golf-specific price increase or if other VW models also had a price increase in September but historically, I can’t recall VW increasing their prices as frequently as every 12-13 weeks. Probably a consequence of VW’s current financial woes;

The current price of news cars is astonishing. £30k for the Polo GTI is madness. I'm sure that will help VWs financial woes.

Whilst over £30k for a polo gti is madness, it would be much higher if it had gone up with inflation. It used to be prices went up every new plate, considering it won’t have been three months since the last increase that’s madness. I was considering coming back to VW for a golf as we love my wife’s 8.5, but if they keep raising prices I may just stick with Mazda.

Price v’s sales impact can be a fine balancing act; too many small price increases or a smaller number of larger increases and the result could be fewer sales and less revenue overall. With VW’s financial woes, I wonder how confident they are now at being able to produce the ID.2all (Polo sized) EV and sell with a starting price of under €25k which is what they were saying in the March 2023 press release…..

I paid just over £20k for my Polo GTI+ four years ago, so to me £30k sounds very expensive - even allowing for inflation. However, there aren’t that many car manufacturers building small hot hatches now, so if someone wants a small hot hatch, they might be prepared to pay the price VW is asking.
With a high proportion of new cars purchased on PCP finance, the primary focus of many prospective buyers is the monthly repayment amount, rather than the actual price of the vehicle. I’m old school and I don’t want a salesman to conveniently gloss over the price of the vehicle and just focus on what the monthly cost would be if I took the finance option - I want to know what the actual price of the car is - discounted or otherwise!

Hothatch or not, it's basically the last small car with "normal" - not downsized, not electric engine. There will always be buyers for that. Price bump in my market was marginal. I paid £27k for mine, it'd be £300 more today.

No, it doesn’t. I started a discussion topic early last month on VW’s current woes - link below;

surprise, surprise ...
-betting on EV didn't paid off since demand fallen to nearly zero after cutting any return from government
-selling cars where nearly all parts are not made by VW and where everyone want their share on revenue? huh I wonder why would prices go up ...
-making esentially 1 car with 5 different brands and keeping way to many factories to achieve this
-And as someone mentioned before ... young people who hardly can offer their own flat won't be rushing to dealer to spend 20K for car + insurance. I was lucky and bought new polo at 25 but 95% of young people in Czechia will look at 10-15 years old hatchback and say "good enough".
They will need to stop this and simplify what they offer.

It is no different here in our market where the replacement cost of my vehicle has jumped 29.8% since 2019, new and before options.

and now it looks like our wonderful? government in the UK is going to double the VED in the first year for pretty much all ICE cars! To "encourage" us to to buy an electric car. I call BS here!!

Bearing in mind you don’t physically pay tax the first year, it’s all rolled into the price of the car, all it does is increase car prices again. I wouldn’t buy an electric currently so it just incentivises people to keep running older cars that pump out more emissions. They really are thick.

As predicted, VW prices went up today
As an example - Polo Gti is now £30430 (was £30195)
