radiator fan control module/ relay

Hi,
I have a 2012 1.2 VIN 6RZCU056981. It sounds crazy but I cannot locate the radiator fan control module/ relay. Can someone advise please?

The reason for the search is that the manual (ie. simple on/off button) air-conditioning doesn't work despite the system being fully gassed. By disconnecting the radiator temperature sensor and jumping the pins of the connector I established that the low-speed fan mode works but the high-speed mode (also required for the air conditioning) does not. There seem to be two relevant fuses, a 5A under the steering column and a 40A on top of the battery) and they are both fine. Barring a wiring fault that leaves either the motor controller or the fan itself as the culprit. The internet suggests the fan control unit is the chief suspect.

The internet also suggests the fan control module is a version of 5J0 919 506 which can be had from a breaker/ EBay for £25 or so. The images & videos of this module show a black rectangular unit around 3 to 4 inches long with a white (sometimes burnt..) underside and with two multi-pin connectors. My local VW dealer (they originally supplied the car) tells me I do indeed need 5J0 919 506 but the catalogue image shows a simple (single connector) black module rather like a fat USB stick with a moulded in paddle/ mounting plate, and cost a cool £322 + VAT. Would I be right in thinking that the larger module with two connectors is for cars equipped with air conditioning whilst the USB style module is actually a simple relay unit used in cars without air-conditioning? In a moment of honesty the VW guy said the images shown in their parts books often don't match up with the actual parts....

If I can find the location of my controller/ relay then it'll be obvious what I need to purchase.
Many thanks

On cars without start/stop it's located blow the battery, on the left hand side, lower chassis member.
On cars with start/stop it's located in the heart of the big fan.

Thanks, I should have added that my car doesn't have Stop/ Start (thankfully).. but I'll study the fan more carefully, in case.
