2 DQ250 DSG Questions

Hey guys.
I recently purchased a 2020 Polo GTI with 50k km’s on the clock with its full service history. I’ve had it for 6 months now (What an impressive upgrade from my 1.0 R Line manual)
First question is that I’ve noticed that on some instances, there’s a jolt when taking off from standstill it only happens like once or twice a day.
The second question is just after going into 4th gear, I hear a light clicking sound. My guess is the selector fork pre-selecting 5th gear because it happens again after going into 6th gear.
I have seen these behaviours as being categorised as normal DSG behaviour online. I just wanted to buddy on this forum with the same car to confirm whether they get the same behaviour from their DQ250 gearbox.

I no longer own it, but I used to have a 2020 Polo GTI+ with the 6 speed DQ250 DSG transmission. I can’t say I ever remember it jolting when moving off from standstill or making any gear pre-selection noises; it was always smooth and silent in operation, although the car had only covered around 18.5k miles (around 30k km) when I sold it.
Forum member @OomStu_ZA is based in South Africa and I seem to remember his GTI has covered in excess of 100k km. Hopefully he’ll read your post and provide feedback on the smoothness / noise of the DSG in his car. If not, you could always send him a pm.
Service intervals on the DQ250 are every 40k miles (64k - 65k km) so although the service isn’t due on your car yet, it might be worth getting it done early to see if you notice any improvement. Forum member S_94 had theirs serviced within the last year and did comment on improved smoothness after the service - see the last post in the discussion topic at the link below;

Hello LeebzP and SRGTD
Happy Saturday and trust you're all keeping well?
In the 6 years of ownership I cant say that I have ever experienced any noises/clunking from my cars DSG box, now on 127000KM's. That said it has on occasion become "stuck in second gear" while pulling away from a traffic light and to remedy the situation I just lift off the accelerator and the gearbox seems to sort itself out, if not I just change up manually. In total this may have happened 5-7 times in 6 years.

Yes, I’m well thanks and trust you are too. Not too many mk6 GTI owners past or present - or mk6 owners in general - posting on the forum these days. Maybe that’s an indication the Polo is pretty reliable and trouble-free; owners are more likely to post if they have problems rather than just post to say everything is fine with their cars. Also, some GTI (and non-GTI) Polo owning forum members will have moved on to different cars as I have.
It’ll be a year’s ownership of the Clio in a couple of months time for me. I’ll update my Clio Ownership discussion topic then with what life’s been like as a Clio owner.
Apologies to @LeebzP for the off-topic post!

Thank you so much guys for the friendly responses.
The car was serviced 2 weeks ago. I’ll go to my nearest dealer and have it checked. I just hope I can replicate the jolting. I’ve often had trouble replicating a specific issue at the dealer because cars tend to behave when it’s time to show the mechanic what’s wrong

. The car is under warranty so I’m not too worried.
And yes, I am based in South Africa.

Hey LeebzP or as we SAFA's say, howzit boet
That is probably best. There is nothing worse when one is unable to replicate an issue as I've been there too with my 2014 Polo TSI and the infamous dash rattle that turned out to be the headliner that was not secured properly.
For reference I am in Cape Town and deal with Barons N1, nice group of people who always willing to assist.
There is one problem none of the dealerships will admit to until it happens, carbon build up on the valves which is unfortunately unaffordable, probably due to our poorer fuel quality. This occurs every 50k KMs or so meaning you should be good for another 50k at least if it was addressed before you purchased the car.
@SRGTD - Yes it has been a while and look forward to your 1 year ownership update of the Clio.

Thanks Boet!!
I’m located in Pretoria, Gauteng and I’ve had good experiences with the Hatfield VW group although their products and services are pricier than other VW groups.
Ahh the infamous dash rattle. Seems to be a common issue with these smaller VW cars. Just like the handbrake rattle

.
I’ll definitely get the intake valves checked out.
