2013 polo cam sensor issue

Hi all, newbie here. Just got a problem with the wife's polo and wonder if anyone has had the same issue or similar and managed to solve it?
It's a 2013 polo 1.2l petrol (3 cylinder).
I replaced the timing chain, tensioner and guides etc about 6 months ago (used the crank locking pin and 2 x cam locking tools).
It's been starting and running fine up until about a week ago. It randomly won't start on first attempt but always seems to on the second attempt. Sometimes the eml comes on but sometimes not. Ive scanned it and it keeps bringing back a fault for the G40 cam sensor. Ive replaced this but still the starting fault persists. Once it has started, it runs absolutely fine with no issues.
I'm wondering if it could be the fuel pump or some other issue with the fuel system not being primed enough on the first start attempt but then I dont see why it would still bring up a fault with the cam sensor. Ive scoped both the cam and the crank sensors and they both seem to be behaving as they should.
I'm wondering if anyone out there has had this issue and its been resolved or if someone could point me in the right direction as to where to go with it?
Thanks in advance.
