BCM upgrade from 7H0 to 7E0, flickering instrument cluster and all buttons

Hi everyone, I’m looking for some advice regarding an issue after a BCM upgrade on my 2013 VW Polo 6R (TSI).

VW Polo 6R (TSI) 2013 with:
  • Factory Bi-Xenons - without auto-lights
  • Auto-dimming mirror
  • Rain sensor
  • Cruise Control
  • Panoramic Sunroof
  • DSG Transmission
The Upgrade:
I upgraded my BCM from 7H0 937 090 B to 7E0 937 090 to gain CAN Gateway support for a 5F unit. The installation was a direct "plug and play" swap with no changes made to the physical wiring. I transferred the coding from the original BCM and CAN Gateway to the new ones and successfully adapted the remote key fobs. An expansion/autoscan via VCDS shows no fault codes both before and after the swap.

VCDS Autoscan before swap (OLD BCM 7H0 937 090 B):

The Problem:
As soon as I turn on the exterior lights, the interior backlighting (instrument cluster and all buttons) starts flickering. Interestingly, if I lower the brightness using the dimmer switch, the flickering frequency increases.
This only happens when the engine is running and the lights are on. When only the ignition is on (engine off) and lights are on, there is no flickering at all.
Does anyone know what might be causing this or if there's a specific adaptation or coding parameter I missed for the 7E0 unit in a Polo 6R?
Thanks in advance for any help!

Hi there.
Looks like signal 58/58d conflict is going on after BCM swap. Temporarily isolate T73/b 34 wire from BCM and see if problem resolves.

Possible causes:
- You need to add a new 58d wire.
- If the 7E0 BCM is second-hand, some Adaptation channels may need to be modified.

Thanks for the advice. I'll pull this pin out of the connector tonight and let you know.

Thanks for the advice. New 58d wire? From the BCM to the dimmer switch ?
Yes. 7E0 BCM is second-hand from VW T6 Multivan.

Ciclo, i am sorry, this topic is about Automatic lights, but I dont have automatic light switch. So you're saying I need to get a wiring harness for automatic lighting?

NO.
I only said that if you look there, you might be able to find the solution yourself.

It's very obvious to me. šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø

However, it's a good time to install automatic lights. Highly recommended.

OK, I think I have the solution: A new wire between Dimmer (pin T6/3) and BCM 7E0 (pin T73b/4). Could you please confirm if this is correct?

New wire is definitely needed from BCM T73b/4 to T6/3 dimmer switch for 7E0 BCM. Even with new wire connected, flickering of buttons backlight would persist. I know this, because sometime ago, me and Amir were trying to troubleshoot the same problem of flickering in polo6r after 7H0 to 7E0 swap with factory bixenons with dimmer in EU import 6R.
Thinking of signal 58d dual input conflict happening at dimmer switch, I suggested trying to isolate t73b/34, it worked and flickering stopped. Or is it supposed to be T73b/1 ?
I know there are so many electrical variants of 6R , you know better than any one of us and explain us with your exhaustive knowledge and experience šŸ˜ŠšŸ™

For now 🤭... I can only tell you that the BCM needs to know what's happening with signal 58d/58 so it can manage it 'according to instructions'.
T73b/34 is the 58'd' BCM's input signal, so removing it isn't the best course of action.

Sometimes, people living in parallel universes šŸ˜… use the blue/grey wire (signal 58d) that goes to all the switches to power 'ACME' brand control units for interior neon lights or other parallel circumstances... This is not right.
The correct thing to do would be to use this 58d signal to activate a relay with a +30 supply for that parallel universe. Even VW does this (see T6 diagrams).
Speaking of our dear friend Amir, I remember that a long time ago I made him an interior lighting system similar to this one for his 6R TSI.šŸ¤—

I'm going to have to have a serious talk with Amir, since we are currently in contact with similar circumstances for a friend's 6R.

In the 7E0 BCM Max, it is possible to replicate that flickering of the interior lights on an adaptation channel (other than APK 45) by changing the assigned/'instructed' value.
The channel number is suggestive/exciting.

Logic does not allow for ambiguity.
It is absurd to omit parallel universes to the masters of this or any other universe.šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø

That one or some nearby channel, I don't remember exactly... I checked it a long time ago, I suppose everyone should test it personally as it can give different results.

Now, from memory, I only know the more than 2500 BCM adaptation channels of the Golf and some of Porsche.šŸ˜„

When I disconnect wire T73b/34, the flickering of the instrument cluster backlight and all buttons stops. However, the dimmer wheel now only adjusts the interior button illumination; it no longer affects the backlight for the instrument cluster, radio, or Climatronic.

Exactly, and that's why the T73b/34 needs to be connected.

Install the wire you discovered yourself. T73b/4 --- T6/3 (1.0mm2).

Take a reading of the BCM's adaptation channels and upload it to a server so we can access it.
