I wanted to share some news I have just received regarding my Polo GTI Edition 25 and see what the community thinks.
My car is a 74-plate in Kings Red Metallic with 4,500 miles on the clock. When ordering, I ticked absolutely every single optional extra box available, including the Dynamic Chassis Control (DCC), panoramic glass roof, Discover Pro 9.2" navigation upgrade, driver assistance packs. These options were all you could get at the time but due to my cars delay i manage to get VW to also include the upgraded Beats Audio premium sound system.
I recently reached out to Volkswagen UK to check the build registry. I just received a direct email confirmation from Mike Orford (Head of PR and Communications at VW UK) stating:"We can confirm that not only is the car a one of its kind in its spec, it’s the only car we sold with those options regardless of colour. It’s quite a rarity!"This means out of the 350 units allocated to the UK, this is a verified 1-of-1 factory "Max Spec" build.I am currently testing the market and considering putting it up for sale soon (likely via a PistonHeads or a specialist auction platform).Given the official manufacturer provenance and the fact it has every single option most buyers skipped, what kind of realistic premium do you think this should command over a standard Edition 25? Would be grateful to hear your thoughts!

Are you sure DCC wasn’t part of the GTI 25’s standard spec; it was on my 2020 pre-facelift Polo GTI+ as part of the standard spec (called sport select suspension at that time; two modes - sport and normal).

As for the price premium of a ‘fully loaded’ GTI 25 compared to a lower spec’d example; unfortunately, those (often costly) extra cost options on a fully loaded car depreciate at a far greater rate than the depreciation rate of the actual car itself. So IMHO it’s unlikely the value of a fully loaded car will be significantly more than a less well spec’d example of the same model of a similar age and with a similar mileage.

Why Extras Depreciate Faster

• No Added Utility: Upgraded wheels or custom paint do not make the car run any better. Buyers view them as free bonuses, not value-adders.

So when considering what price premium your car would command over a less well spec’d GTI 25; sadly, I don’t think it would be that great, although I’d like to be proven wrong.

IMHO it would be worth checking out car buying services such as Motorway and Carwow to get an idea of a realistic value of your car (I’d avoid We Buy Any Car as historically, they’ve had a reputation for making low ball offers). As with all car buying services, be sure to declare any imperfections however small so the initial indicative value isn’t knocked down if / when your car is viewed. You could also check out the Approved Used section of VW’s own website and AutoTrader / other similar websites for current retail selling prices of GTI 25’s of a similar age / mileage to yours, although in bear mind dealer retail prices will include a margin to cover the services offered by a motor trader, along with their overheads that aren’t applicable to a private buyer (e.g. provision of finance, warranty, profit, garage overheads etc.).
