2011 6R 1.2 TDI - noisy gearbox

Post by louisb1 »

Had my clutch and gearbox oil changed by a mobile mechanic, then 1 month later I took it to another garage for a separate issue, and they noticed I had a ‘noisy gearbox’ in 1-3 gears

Given the timing of the job and this problem, I rung up the original mechanic and was told my gearbox was already on its way out.

This is the first time I had my gearbox oil changed in 150,000 miles so I can see that I suppose, just funny coincidence with the clutch job.

so, my options are buy another car or get a gearbox put in - anyone had experience with this and cost estimates? guessing i can buy off ebay and get someone to put it in?

thanks

Fitting an used gearbox is cheaper and faster than replacing your.
Gearboxes are easy to source and they are not that expensive.
You have to use gear oil that fits the correct specification, once you fill the oil wheels need to be rotated ( this will make oil go inside the diff, need to put addition oil in gerabox).

Start/ stop gearboxes have addition connector in the bell housing near the shift tower.

You can find your gearbox code near the gearbox mount, near the shift tower. Is hard to read a bit of scotch brite helps it be more visible ( do not use sand paper).
