Probably a stupid question, but what tool should I use to cut holes on the parcel shelf to fit some speakers in?

The only reason why I'm asking is that I fear when I use a jigsaw or something' like that it will like get stuck on the carpet or rip it or make it look bad. Who knows! Well I certainly don't, so I thought I better ask you guys first.

If you can afford to... I got an auto acoustics stealth shelf very solid MDF with precut speaker holes. Around £100 I think you can get a uk-polos discount.

Saves a lot of hassle cutting, you can keep your original shelf and it looks

Where are the holes? I mean from the top view - where does the sound come through man! LOL! (me stupid)

The shelf is about half an inch thick but the cloth on top is very thin. so the areas cut out for the speakers allow the sound to come through no problems.

You should be able to attach your speaker underneath so nothing shows on the top. The holes can be cut to any standard speaker size and placed where ever you like, they will cut it for you.

Do they charge extra for the cutting the holes? Delivery? And is there a website?

Depends I think, what colour and if you get the "kit" version or the pre-fabricated with pre-cut holes.

There's an option of 2x 6.5" + 1x 12"!? What is that allabout? Fixing a 12" sub on the parcel shelf or something?

Didn't understand your last post saying that i already haveone. Well i do. I took it out because i tended to slide around roundabouts with it is. Probably the magnets on the speakers didn't help to the weight either.

£90 if i remember correctly including p&p. Kit is easy to put together, takes 30-60 mins to do.

Though may i note it might not be cut correctly so check before you put the carpet on. I didn't and had to chop about half an inch off of the front for it to fit. (dad kindly did it i would never have got the same shape otherwise )

Just thinking of doing mine in bit of a budget way... I was going to cut the cloth with a stanley knife around the speaker diameter maybe cut away about a cm or 2 more than the required hole... and then cut the actual hole.
I then planned on using the cloth to cover the speaker and voila a budget stealth shelf!
What do you guys think?

get some mdf cut holes in that i used a drill and power saw thing worked fine 2min job.make marks on back of original shelf then cut out the carpet with a stanley knife.but dont go right through just get all the felt crap out where the speakers will be.so your left with just thin layer of top material, screw mdf with speakers attached to it to the bottom of parcel shelf and bingo DIY stealth shelf.

As for budget MDF cost me £3.85 screws £1.95 and took about 2hrs to make.

ps. when drilling through parcel shelf the carpet didnt rip of snag on drill or anything exotic just went straight through for a clean job.

Oh well... I've done mine now... I just used a stanley/carving knife and cut around the size of the speaker on the underside of the parcel shelf. Once cut, I was able to just rip out all the felt stuff to like thin layer left.

I just screwed the speakers onto the underside of the parcel shelf itself... and covered the screw heads with the bit of carpet I cut away... real budget job... couldnt be bothered in the end!

does it work ok?
i used abit of mdf on mine make it abit more solid and the shelf shouldnt vibrate. got put an amp on mine as well. then its all finished.
