Problem with buying a van is that it's very unlikely to ever have been driven by someone who actually owns it.
That car's J reg, so it's had around 14 years of people thrashing it probably. Polos may be bullet proof, but how much abuse can they take?
That's in need of some TLC in the bodywork department, and a G40. It'd be ok then.

A: A lot (sayeth I!), and as its a business vehicle its likely to have been kept on the road (by way of servicing and repairs) a little more carefully/costfully than a privatley owned one. I don't suppose too many fleet purchasers are blind to the fact that company cars and vans get thrashed mercilessly...
Looks like its seen a lot of building site work by the state of the arches tho, the load bay might be well worn!

As long as the oils been changed every 10,000 miles then mechanically even if its been ragged it should be ok. The oil in my black GT hadnt been changed for years - which is what killed it ultimately.

yeah right! If it's been a company vehicle it's going to have been ragged to within an inch of it's life on a daily basis & just about kept on the road at the lowest cost possible.
I've worked for several companies who have a fleets of company cars & driven most of them at my last job. by the time they're about 5-6 years old they're f**ked!
Although that Polo van looks in OK condition from those pics.

Use it as a mobile shed to store all your wheels

im working on the assumption that if it's that age and its still a runner, its probably seen care by a decent company maintenance program. they do exist, so i'm told.
well at least i hope they do, otherwise that kangoo used for deliveries from the pharmacy i worked in will be written off due to the engine blowing before it's seen 40k

Why don't you just convert your breadvan into a proper van? You can get the metal plates from VW to reaplce your windows.
Sorted.

Not that simple. They need welding in, it's not just a case of popping out your windows and sticking in the metal panels using the old window rubbers. I looked at getting it done on my squareback a while ago, but the cost of paying for someone to weld them in stopped me.
