Are there still any mk1 owners on the forum? It seems to be something of a dying breed, such a shame :(

Ah, good to know :D I'm tempted to get one and stick an interesting engine in it, when I'm in a position to take on a project like that.. they're such cool little cars :)

you could make an electric one.....

i think they'd be a great shell to stick a fuel cell and modern interior into :D

maybe make a "cab forward" designed one as well

I know a few other with Mk 1's but don't come on here.

It would be good to do a Mk 1 with a Mk 2 GT (GK) engine, lightened and balanced running twin 40's, Sorg airbox and filter, mad cam with vernier, 4 branch, exhaust and ported head.

That would go pretty well !

Nice :) How much do mk1's weigh? Must be less than my mk2, and that's pretty much featherweight..

I've had mine since feb (77 R plate Polo L), and after getting cheezed off with the ill running 895cc carb..decided to drop a 3f in it!(cheers 86c!).

Just recently had head skimmed, couple of new valves, new stem seals, headgasket, waterpump, cambelt etc!..and in process of putting cam wheel back on(just made a tool at work today to hold wheel in place!) all work by myself in me carport at home. (apart from skimjob)
Just sprayed engine up silver so it looks minty now.
Gonna be running it on carb(sierra conversion) for the time being until i can get all the injection bits sourced......
Bodyworks not too bad, just needs little bits welding and a rear jack point replacing. Got new black interior with head rests to put in, and hopefully gonna be butchering a gt instrument pod for the dials and keep the early dash!
Have also put new door seals and rubber sealed the floorpan.
Sourced some Mazda 14" splitties to put on after i've refurbed em, then new suspension when funds allow!
There you go....mk1's will be alive!

A friend has an '80 that's dropped 60/40 with 7&8" RSLs on and is getting a GT in it soon (well, as soon as I get round to it). Not sure what'll happen with my '77 yet by I have a modded G in the garage.
Another frind has a '79 with coupe s running gear and interior dropped 60/40. It's up for sale atm, drop me a line and I'll give contact details :)
