Pedal Box again!!

Was driving tha car the other day and had to apply the brakes rather abrubtly. managed to stop the car ok but the brake pedal seemed to snap!!!

Took it back to the garage expecting to be charged the usual couple hundred pound for repairs. but the have just advised me that it is the pedal box which needs replaced and it will be done fee of charge.

My cars pedal box was replaced before the recall, and then they checked it out (apparantly) when the recall happened and said it was the new part.

I'm starting to wonder should this really have happened to a part which is less than a year old and to a part that VW have seemingly improved!! I think that the car may have been fitted with the old part and the dealer couldn't be ar#ed to replace it with the new improved part when the recall happened.

Hiya mate long time no see, Your theory could well be right as it seems strange your pedal box has snapped so soon....either that or you have put a lot of weight on since the polo show and the sheer mass of your foot has broken it.

Easy way to check whether the pedal box was original or a new part is the code.

Have them show you the code on the one they take out. It should begin 6X for the replacement Pedal box - If it don't, then if was the original faulty one and they were being lazy turnips before.

And, check with the VW customer services as they have a record of all Polo GTIs affected that need a pedal box replacement.

Well!! Picked the car up last night and asked to see the part they had removed. The part had a massive snap along one of the welds, but it was the new part (cheers for the info morrismen) as it had the new code.

I think a letter to VW is on the cards to get across my displeasure at the fact that they have come up with an improved part because the clutch part always went and now the brake has gone on this new part.

oh Crap!

That means we could all have this same brake problem on the new pedal box 6X refit :!:

Can you express concerns of the whole Polo GTI forum as this is a serious safety concern now - VW cannot stand by and allow people's VW GTIs to have their brakes collapse underneath them! If they welded up the clutch bracket on the pedal box, then they certainly didn't improve the brake bracket did they :?

"Nothing is as reliable as a Volkswagen" - but then by definition, nothing ever existed did it.

Hmmm...Morrismen, another example to put in our letter of complaint?

Chris, sorry to hear about this, just think that it is lucky that you found out like this not when you really needed to brake suddenly only to have the box fail on you...

Anyone removed their steering wheel

Does anyone recognise this bolt as being something that would have to be removed when taking the steering wheel off??

Image

started noticing that the steering wheel felt a little slack and it rattles if shook left and right. Then noticed this bolt lying on the floor drivers side.

Could this have not been replaced when they were changing the pedal box and would they have to remove the steering wheel when replacing the pedal box??

Anyones help with this ould be appreciated!!
