ROLLING ROAD

Just a quick question.
My car is away to get rolling roaded on saturday, i was wandering if i took out my panel air filter from the standard airbox if i would gain any more power (One of my mates suggested it but wasn't sure if it was worthwhile doing) ?
I think it'd just drink petrol, with all that extra air getting in or would the ecu sort that out ?
The car has a de-cat powerflow exhaust system.
I heard optimax will realise more power too (i was going to run it on that). Does anyone know if this is true ?
Anyones help would be appreciated.

Hi Richard...
Don't take your air filter out.
Ket a K&N instead... They help the car breath better, but won't allow the engine to suck in small children or pets.
Use Optimax and you should be fine...
There's no point doing something just for the rolling road... Surely you want to know what power you're getting day-to-day?

i've been using optimax for over 6 months now and at the JBS rolling road I got 124lb ft (113lb ft as standard) of torque and 124.8 bhp (pretty much standard). I think the rollers at JBS are pretty accurate and not at all optimistic, and i've definately noticed a much nicer pull lower down the rev range and optimax has also sorted out the pinking problem which seems to be common on GTI's too, worth it in my opinion

I dont see why people dont use optimax from the start, if u can afford a GTi you should be able to afford the slightly more expensive fuel.
Im sure all GTI'ers willa gree with me, the gti runs slow and like a sack of Sh1t with poo fuel in it, gotta have the optimax in my oppinion.

OK i think i'll have to invest in a k+n.
I'll look around and see where the cheapest place is.
Whats better panel filter or Induction Kit or they both about the same ?
Where would i take my cold feed from ?
Cheers Josh and everyone else.
P.s. Is a BMC Induction kit worth the money or is the k+n just as good ?

Went on rolling road at weekend.
Quite happy with results, 136bhp and 124ftlbs of torque.
Now time for induction kit.
Does anyone know if Dastek do a Unichip for the Gti ?

Thats good considering its meant to be 125 bhp. Dastek do a chip that fits on the top of the standard chip and if you take it out it goes back to normal again. Do you have any problems with the engine or that when you de cated it. What did you do with the sensor on the old cat.

Hi Jordan.
The sensor off the cat is still there powerflow welded a nut on then screwed it back in to the decat pipe

I've had no problems either.
The car runs fine, just feels like theres more pull (power) going through the gears especially 4 th & 5th

Hi Richard thanks for that i was thinking of de cating mine just wasn't sure what to do with the sensor. Do you know what the sensors actually for. I've had mine lowered on avo coilovers and got 17" wheels and a remus backbox with straight through pipe from cat. I've got k&n induction kit and ice as well. Here's some pix.

I was looking at the coilovers for ages i kept thinking are they really worth it and is there any 60mill springs but eventually i just got them and i know i made the right decision cause i can set the car to the right height and whatever. I've also got my old wheels painted gun metal in middle and silver lip back on for winter so i lowered the car even more cause the 15" don't rub. I don't know how to upload the pictures either or i would have helped you, someone took pictures of mine and put them on his web page. What you got done to yours.
