Hello all!

I remember a while back there was some discussion about B&M shifters. Well, a friend of mine just got one fitted in his Saxo, and it really is sweet!

So, I went to the same place to ask about getting one fitted in my Polo, but apparently there isn't one for the polo.

I know a few of you have had this mod done, so how did you do it? Did you modify a golf IV kit?

Any suggestions would be appreciated because I would really like to get this mod done.

Of course theres one for the Polo!! I can guarantee it I've seen them advertised in magazines and things.

A quick search on the Demon Tweeks website doesn't list VW Polos - but nearly everything on there is from a very limited selection, I bet if you phoned them up they'd have one!

Anyway, I'll go home and take a look at the various car mags I've got lying about, and let you know what I find. Howzat?

You need the kit that's meant for the MK3 Golf VR6.

Heh heh, I think I spoke too soon - a bit of research backs Josh up - after all, he had one on his GTi

Whilst on this topic can I ask exactly how the B & M kit works in your favour though? I haven't grasped it yet. Here's everything I know:

Substantially shortens the gear shift throw. Helps eliminate missed gear changes. Faster, more precise gear shifts. Simple DIY installation with full instructions. Limited lifetime warranty. Aluminium gear knob included where stated. Stick machined from 303 stainless steel, bearing assemblies in 6061-T6 aluminium housing (where fitted).

Faster, more precise gear shifts how exactly?

The gear lever is shorter, and the point at which it pivots is moved upwards. These two things combined reduce the travel of the gear stick by up to 40%. The system is aslo very well engineered, and you get that lovely 'snick, snick' when you change gears.

It fits right on...

However. A tip from a pro (me hehe)...

Get them to drill a really small hole in the end of the horizontal shaft that usually has a circlip on the side of it... it's the clip that holds on the cable on the drivers side of the car...

This has a habbit of popping off with spirited gearchanges, so you have to drill a small hole and put a pin through it (one of those that you put through a hole and bend round so it won't come out).

That's the only thing that needs doing, otherwise, it's an easy job!

VR6 and New Beetle... That's the one I had.

Very good bit of kit... Makes the GTi feel like a sports car!

What does it look like when fitted?

Does the stick sit lower? Can you still use the existing gaiter and gear knob?

Stick is about the same length.

I used the original GTi Knob and Gaiter, you just have to screw it on instead of clip it on like it is on the original shaft.

sounds like a trick bit of kit, as you know Josh def. interested if you can sort a G.B. price!

P.S. Hope the hand gets better, I'm sure JACK and DANIEL's will help tonight!!!
