I don’t like induction kits at all, just a personal preference.. You end up sucking in more hot air even with a cold air in take or two.
I personally would go for a drop in filter as it’s enclosed. OR get a cold air kit. I rate these highly, my friend put one on his gen 3 Hyundai Coupe and the difference is over 10 BHP and is noticeable with a lovely rasp to it.
Just be aware that come summer it won't be that good.

Hmm fair points there then.
I must admit the design of the Polo engine bay is quite crap. WHY!? did they put the air box all the way at the back?

According to Demon Tweeks the BMC kit is universal, so all you have to do is choose either 75mm or 80mm ducting and find a good price!

I have a K&N panel filter in my FSi Polo, no difference to performance whatsoever imho but what I have noticed a difference is the MPG (which is 5mpg up on what it currently was).
However, its the first Winter with the filter and although the cool air has made the engine sound nice and throaty, its also really loud and boomy, not to my taste at all

Horses for courses I guess.

Out of interest Nelson did you get the filter before or after you had it chipped?

Litterally a couple of days afterwoods
Unchipped and without panel filter: 47-48mpg
Chipped: 41-43mpg
Chipped and with panel filter: 46-52mpg (though you only get in the fifties if you really try!)

i'm also looking for a K&N panel filter for my 1.4TDi, but on their website if i choose VW Polo 1.4 TDi 2004 nothing comes up, whereas when i choose 2003 or before, some filters show up. Is there any difference between the 2004 TDi engines or air intake systems and those before 2004? or do you think it is just a mix-up on their site?

Not readily obvious how to remove the air filter unit to replace filter with K&N direct replacement (1.4 75bhp). Can anyone give me a run thru on this please:?:

1. Remove the tube on the right side
2. Remove the engine cover...
3. turn the cover up side down..
4. Loosen the screw (From no. 1-11)
5. open the Lid..
then replace the filter

Thanks. Presumably the engine cover just pulls off upwards after tube on RHS has been removed.
