Late last night round some countryside twisties outside of Portsmouth, got to a dead end and was doing a 3 point turn, rolled to the curb with my NS front and Pop off it goes.

Thank god it didnt go when I was enjoying the car

O well another £80 spent on the beast. New tyre being fitted tomorrow.

What are people running ?

GSD3 Eagle F1's alround on mine

i've just got some F1's fitted all round, much better than the conti sports i've had on it before, sexy treads too !

Cooper Cobras on the front, fitted by the previous owner just before he sold it. They're budget Avons I believe - can't replace them yet as they have a good 5mm+ tread, so I'll save my cash for a bit longer.

The rears are Falkens, can't remember which type off the top of my head, but I think they're ZE512s. They're up for renewal so I'll be keeping an eye on this post with interest! I've heard Toyo T1Ss are good, but not so much in the Winter...

My local Hi-Q will supply me with Goodyears, the next one down from the F1s, for about £60ish I think. I'll be shopping around in January for some new rubber.

the toyos are great but I think alot of places will have to order them, which is ok if your treads are still legal and you haven't got a puncture. Only down side is they're pretty soft and won't last very long at all, thats why I chose the F1's over them..

At the moment I'm running Bridgestone Potenza RE-720s all round - I did a fair bit of research before I got them, as I was running on Vredesteins before (spelling ) and they were awfull. I'm on my second full set, and I've got got to say i've been very impressed, last year I did 35000 miles on one and a half sets, so they're plenty hard, but still pretty good on performance... Best thing is they're excellent in the wet, which was my main gripe with the originals.

How do people find the Eagles for wear rate

i'm getting toyos hopfully soon, how much thred do you need to be leagal? i'm fed up of spining up in the wet! dry days are great!

Got some Pirellis P Zero Nero on mine at the mo, didn't really have much choice seen as I'd upgraded to 16" rims.

They seem alright, more grippy than the Michelins I had on before but that could be because they were barely legal! ha ha ha!

Dubpolo, I believe the minimum is 1.6mm across 3/4 of the the tread...iirc

Stay away from Pirelli P5000 Drago - utter garbage and downright scary in the wet. I have them on the front of mine at the moment and will be getting shot of them soon, as almost had a 'new pants please' moment, coming off a roundabout in the wet last week.

Go for Michelin Pilots, preferably the Exalto, fantastic tyre.

Pirelli P-Zeroz all round on ma 17"s

seem to do me fine in wet or dry conditions.

I've only had GSD3 F1's on the Polo and have been super impressed by them, have run many other brands on other cars but these seem to suit Portsmouth conditions the best. Wear rate I guess all depends on how entusiastic you are when driving but I'd think you should be able to get 10 - 15 k miles heavy footed on F1's, I do believe they are a softer compound than most but are quiet good under normal conditions due to the simple tread ?
