Best tyre size for 17" on a 9n?

Whats the best tyre size to have for 17" alloys on a 9n? Bought the alloys for our bug but may put in on the polo instead....
Size 17x7.0 5stud 100pcd and need some tyres, cheers.

205/40/17. Rolling radius is very similar, and are reasonably cheap to get hold of.
I run SEAT Sport wheels (7x17) on the Beeza, and SEAT recommend 205/40s for those. Also, SEAT fit 205/40s as standard to the new Cupra.

yep 205/40/17s wil be the cheapest to buy.
altho 215/40/17s, 225/35/17 fit if you are after "wider " tyres.
