rite then fellas! few Q's for u thecnical know it alls!
1st i want to upgrade my bulbs... they only run 45 watt? so does this mean that if i say put a standard (normal) blub in 55/65 watt?? will this damage my wireing??
and also... another Q, went to the scrappy they other day, picked up a pair of headlights (thought id pick em up jus in case) and it had a different metal ring for the bulbs... and higher wattage (namrmal) blubs!!! so, does this mean that the one in the scrappy could have cooked his wireing, or will it run the higher bulbs...??
is there going to be a crystal headlamp for the MKII?? coz if there is going to be, surely they wont run the stupid lookin 45watt bulbs??
thanx for any help on this! much appriciated... (coz in wales you all know wot the weather is like... ALL FOUR SEASONS in ONE day! haha

the bulbs were upgraded in the newer polo's.
you can run higher wattage bulbs but you might have to upgrade on other stuff.
the metal ring you are talking about is just the upgrade.
they dont do crystal headlights for polo yet but give them a chance and they will

are the headlights from the scrappy marked H4 ? fitting these to you're polo should cause no wireing problems as VW fitted these to the polo from around 1981 as standard or optional extras.the H4's lights should have a metal clip and not a metal ring type bulb fitting. don't go no higher than the 55/65 bulbs .

Whats the deal then for those of us who've got twin headlights? I havent checked what bulbs they are yet but the main beam and dipped beam come from different bulbs! (rather than different filaments in the same bulb) cos the middle two lghts act as my "main beams"

the grill bulbs are rated at 55watt and are marked as H3 ,you should still get mainbeam illumination from the headlights the for these are the standard H4 55/65 watt bulbs

Your outer headlights shouldn't turn off when you go to main beam.. the outers should switch to main beam and the inners should turn on as well. The outer headlamps are exactly the same as the ones on single lamp cars.. otherwise I'd have a problem because I added the extra lamps without changing my outer ones

yeah the outer ones dont turn off when the middle ones come on, just puts all 4 on!

The middle uns would make good spotlamps though if it did everything on the outer ones.

rite, well i wasnt gonna mention this until its compleate.... but i am lookin at a set of crystal laps from the MK1, the lamps are 7" wide, and the little polo ones are about 6", so really there is only half an inch each side to play with really..... so i gots me a grill off Ebay and im in the process of de-badging it, and also gonna have a crack at fitting MK1/2 lights..... then wen the standard golf lights fit, and look good and not tacky and s**t, then i will be purchasing a set of the angel/crystal/cross hair (wot eva takes my facy at the time)
and i WILL post pics, and tell you all if i have failed or succeeded!! haha

well looking at your sig the 6" ones are a pretty tight fight I cant see you getting the 7s in that space without cutting away at the metal panel underneath the lights which may not look too good.
Have you washed the insides of your headlights yet? That makes em look more seethrough which is what crystal headlights is all about at tend ot day isnt it?

I tried washing my headlamps, but it's not easy on mk2's because you can't seperate the lense from the reflector, so you can't really get in there with a cloth to wash it, and you can't dry it off properly afterwards so I've got a bit of a condensation problem now.

You cant on the mk3 either. You just take the headlight off, fill it with warm water and fairy liquid and leave it sat somewhere for a bit. Obviously it helps if you shake it about a bit as well.

Ah, fair enough

I'll give that a try then.. last time I thought I could just quickly wash it out before it got dark, so I didn't think of just leaving it to clean / dry itself...
Wonder if sticking it in the dishwasher would work..
