Tell me if im wrong but the more basic models of the mk1 polos have big plastic grill fronts the better models have ones that look more like the mk1 golf, chrome etc
Can you take the big black plastic grill off and put a chrome type one in its place?

STICKY OUT GRILL
(yes, i know all the technical terms)

As if to answer your question, the picture of the chrome grille there is an Audi 50 chrome grille on a mk1 polo which would originally have had the standard VW plastic grille :) They're like rocking horse s**t, but interchangable if you can track one down. Ditto the chrome bumpers if you're interested in them too.

Yes they are - but you'll need to remove the small oval holes left on the front panel where the old grille used to clip. Look below the grille on the picture you posed of Jody's polo. Looks nicer with the chrome surround too...

Jody wanted £350 for the red car last I knew...

The grilles are early(pre Feb 1979) and late(upto end of 1981) types not lower and higher spec types. They are interchangeable as I have put the early type on my car. It looks a bit pants though if you don't fit the early bumpers with it...

I've an '81 Mk1 which I'm just finishing off to original spec (one owner, 46,000 miles!!!).

Does any one have any of the clips which fit the grill to the leading edge of each front wing spare? They are now obselete according to VW......
