I was gonna get one but I couldn't find the loom for it

If you do have one it will be located on the o/s under the A pillar trim.

Also, could you also list what model and year your car is whether you have one or not? Mines a 1.2 S '03' model year.

Yeah, mine looks the same apart from my loom doesn't split in two but just carries on straight to the petrol flap (for central locking).

Mine has a blanking plate.

I'll check for the loom. Where there's a loom there's always hope...

I havent got one, and I looked into fitting one cos I do need one.
Have no loom there for one as far as I can see (didnt think it would) and the only switched voltage in the boot is a 2.1v supply, which isnt too helpful

This is really strange seeing that some of the overseas models are not fitted with a luggage compartment light - here all our Polo's are fitted with one - even the very basic 1.4 - seems we are spoilt

my Polo didn't have a bootlight, but it's possible to connect one ....

i complained about the missing light when i got the car, so the shop fitted one (and i cant give you much more details because i didnt do it by myself), but there are 2 cable connected to the light one is red and one is brown. the brown one is coming from a cable loom, the red one is under the pillar trim, but i saw the other end when i replaced the courtesy light with the one from the Passat W8... they just connected the red cable to the 12V cable for the courtesy light....

I have one on my '03 1.9 TDi Sport

all you will have to do is find out how its switched* and then see if you have the switch, if no then it must be fitted and then the wireing is simply +12v to one terminal on the switch then from the other side of the switch to one of the bulb terminals and then the other bulb terminal to earth. it would also be a good idea to fit a fuse in the 12v supply

* the switch could either be a puch switch somwhere on the hatch so that the boot door presses it when closed, thus when the boot is opened the switch comes into contact

it could be the same as on audis and mk5`s where the switch is integrated into the latch so that to turn off the liht the latch must be in the closed position.

to pass all wires i would use the existing rubber boots that conceal the washer fluid pipe

Firstly welcome!

Secondly.... when does your boot light come on, just when your boot opens or when your doors are open? The reason I ask is that you say the red wire is connected to the courtesy light +12v so I would assume (and it is late so forgive me if I'm wrong!) it only comes on when the front doors are opened, and you would get 15seconds or so in the boot before it fades with the courtesy lights. Again, I may be talking rubbish

Me and Nelson are trying to easily sort a boot light that's all.

Unfortunately I cant tell you more, because I didn't put it in, but there is alreday a switch in the boot... when you open your boot a red light will go on where all the control lights are.... (that's why its even more ridiculous that they leave out the light, they already have the contact switch and the light looks so cheap, that they dont save much money by not putting the light in)

anyway... the boot light goes on, when this red control light goes on.... i guess that brown cable is a signal when the light should go on, and the red cable is just for the 12V....

If it helps I can try to check where that brown cable goes....

I just discovered the other end of the red cable by chance when I changed the courtesy lights, but it looks definitely "self made" and nothing else was modified in my Polo ...and the cable has the same colour so I must assume the guys somehow couldnt get a permanent source for 12V in the boot and had to take it from there..

I remember that my VW dealer had some problems with the loom... I actually imported the car from the Netherlands, but I bought it in Germany ( to save money ) and somehow Polos from different countries seem to have a different loom, that was the most confusing part when they put the light in...

Yeh I had sussed that there is already a switch, and found what I thought was the wire for the red light - a switched 2.1v Hmmm. if you could look into where the brown wire goes that would be handy, if not I'll be out there again with the multimeter

Hi,

I just followed up that brown cable...

it it is connected to a kind of plug in the left part of the boot (behind the first aid kit)

its connected to the top "plug" (the cable is yellow in the end, they probably had a yellow cable with a lug that was not long enogh so they connected that to a brown cable)



top plug: its connected to pin 5, the other end of pin 5 is a very thin brown/black wire...




again, that's for the Belgian Polo. The cables might be different in a British Polo, because I was told that they are also different in a German Polo...
