Fitting a 3rd rear 3-point seatbelt?

Well, my car has a fixed, 2-point seatbelt for the rear centre passenger, and I'm not very happy with that (even though I always avoid having more than 4 people in the car).

What I'd like to know is whether it is possible to retro-fit that 3rd 3-point belt, and the part numbers for the things I'd need.

My fear is that the 3rd belt comes out of something in the actual seat - the Gol (not Golf) is like that.

I'm afraid I can't help you really, sorry. I have never seen a 3 point centre belt in a New Polo. The best I can do is show you this pic, which is from ETKA. It shows the fixed side is fixed to the same point, and 2nd point also to the same point, and the 3rd point, but it doesn't give info on where it fixes. I can't tell if it's in the seat or not. ETKA doesn't show a different seat back for 3 point centre belts.

This starts to look like an expensive job for the sheer number of small parts involved (and I have no idea how much the actual belt should cost).

Anyway the 3rd 3-point belt seems to be standard on most Polo models in Germany, plus it's fitted to most Brazilian export cars but not to the ones sold in the domestic market.

Good thing is, at least I know the parts can be bought locally.

I'll keep looking around for this but seems to me it'll be the same as the dashboard cupholder: too expensive for little benefit. The cupholder would cost around Â£50 + fitting so I gave it up.

Would never drink or eat anything inside my baby anyway!

speaking of cup holders i was in the same situation when i asked my dealer and they quoted me Â£80 for all the required parts but they couldnt guarentee if it would fit. then about 3 or 4 days later i heard about vag parts (and my credit card has been ill since

) and he managed to more than half the price even with postage

Well, there's always Martyn...

I've already ordered a luggage net from his shop as it is not available here. However I've really given up on the cupholder at the moment.

As for the ETKA pic posted by mole, it seems that the seatbelt is fixed on the boot floor somewhere, the rear seat not being a safe anchorage point I think. Maybe there's a recess at the base of the seat or something - I'll look that up.

I thought the seatbelt actually came up through seat so this would require a new seat back and i'm also sure the seatbacks are ergonomically designed for that third person, have you ever sat in the middle, it's too uncomfortable on the standard twin seatbelt models. BTW you also get a headrest with the third seatbelt.

So yes it would be expensive.

Not sure des, I thought the same but etka doesnt seem to show the different seat back for the centre belt

I always thought the seatbelt came out through the parcel shelf, not the actual seat. But then again I have yet to see a Polo with the 3rd seatbelt.

About the cupholder, I'll check it with Martyn, thanks mole!

I'm not sure where it comes from to be honest. I can't work it out on ETKA

6Q0 858 602 C 1QA - That's for a right cup holder (lhd). I assume your LHD but I dunno if I'm right

Yes my car is LHD. Though a RHD one would be cool for saying 'Hello' to fellow motorists in traffic lights!

BTW mole, is it possible to check whether the cupholder part is the only one I'll need for this mod? Could you please check that for me?

That's all you need as far as I can tell! Part 5 in the following diagram, includes part 6. Thats the part number you have! Doesn't show/list any other little bits. This *should* be a straight forward mod! But I can't be 100% sure I'm afraid

Hmmm,

To get the cup holder i'm 99.9% sure you need a new Centre console trim. As ETKA lists a different trim for vehicles with cup holder (PR: 4M5)

Yes, that's what I thought too... Cupholder consoles have a little bit of trim inside the place where the actual holder goes in, and I doubt the basic cars have that underneath the blanking plate.

However, I noticed a difference between the blanking plates in European and South American Polos. The Euro one is recessed, and the southern one is lid-like (see pic below).

So maybe I have the right centre console trim after all. But I'm almost sure I have not.

Anyways, is there someone capable of telling me that just by looking at the photo? 'Cos I'm not feeling like taking the dash apart just when all the rattles seem to be disappearing!
