Power Steering noise on start-up

Yesterday, my GTi developed a squeeking from the steering. This is only on cold start. It seems as though the power steering pump is trying to pressurise. After a minute or so, it stops.

One thing is, that when this noise is happening, turning the steering wheel makes the noise louder.

Could it be the fluid is knackered or could it be something else?

Anyone else had problems with the Power steering making a noise?

Sounds like a belt is loose... after revving a little or after a few minutes warm up, the squeeling stops. Does the power steering have a belt?!?!?

Is it the same big thick belt that goes round the alternator etc? Otherwise, not sure where the power steering belt is... perhaps it's somewhere hidden? :?

I know where the power steering fluid is located and this is good and clean and up to max when I checked it Saturday. :)

Can you give me some clues where this power steering belt is located please?
