yes, I installed a new 15A fuse in the fusebox (no. 56) and routed the power to the bulb through this fuse (as instruction in diagram)

I completed the install using the diagram shared by iichel (through lightswitch pin 3 without bcm)

happy to report that it works well

Recently, I got a 2015 Polo 1.2 TSI DSG (Typ 6R/60 "IND")

Unfortunately, half it's steering controls are broken :(

I was searching around and have seen that used Golf Mk7 steering wheels with controls and paddle shifts can be had for around the same price of a new set of steering ...

That is correct, only the BCM high/max supports it this way but that's okay.
At least, I googled a picture of your BCM and it doesn't seem to have the appropriate pins for the DRL via BCM. Only cars with start/stop system have the halogen DRL via BCM.
