My colleague has a 2012 beetle and I had a look at its audio package. Its an older car than mine yet its got RCD510 same as mine with bluetooth and in the glovebox its got the media in lead with USB. No fair !!

I ordered a new media in lead with USB for my BGT but it does not work. Its the one at the top. The one underneath with the blue end is the original.

What did I get wrong. Again the original with a blue end on the pic below. Note the pin arrangement ...

Thanks for the very informative response. So looking closer at the service book the car is on time & distance plan and had an oil change service 30/07/18 @ 28,600mls so actually only about 500mls ago. The last extended inspection was @ 25,000mls in Oct 2017. The service book also says the next ...

We are getting an advisory message on the MFD "inspection in 12 days". Car has done 29,000mls
Can anybody explain what this inspection involves ?

Lots of options and lots to think about. At the moment not actually suffering too badly when we found we could hook up an 80gb ipod and it plays perfectly and still get full functionality through the MFSW. What also helps is the car is so damn good and loving DSG too.

Sorry couldnt find where else to post this. Has anybody taken one out on a used car. The cost seems pretty reasonable especially if you select named component cover. I just got a quote of £240 for 1yr or just over £23 a month.

Thanks great reply and yes it does have a microphone installed I guess with the BT kit.

Talking to a few audio specialists it pretty much seems I can have what I want if I pay for it. One suggestion is a Kenwood unit with apple carplay at just short of £700

Just had another look under the front seats and there is nothing except for a voltage stabilizer. I confirmed this by partcode.

This is the bluetooth kit which is rubbish for playing music through. I need to look under the seat again.

So just thinking about this how would a person pair their phone to the RCD510 unit without the TPK kit. Does RCD510 have bluetooth itself ?

I didnt realise it would be as difficult to sort out but so frustrating that this car does not have as good a media package as our older Fabia and it would have been considerably more expensive when new. By the way yes I do have buttons on the steering ...
