Re: if you find you put off necessary jobs
Is this really necessary? I put my motorbikes on a trickle charger, but that's because they're laid up for months on end. I'm not exactly a high mileage driver, my cars only do very short commuting and are then laid up all weekend. I honestly, truthfully, cannot remember the last time I had any batt...

Re: Brand new Polo, Steering is offset
The wife's Evoque has a weird dash angle that makes it look like the wheel is out.
it's not, it's the dash sort of angling away from you, it's a bit weird.

Re: Start stop issue
This is the ticket! Thanks a lot for linking that thread. All the symptoms line up. My recent journeys have been quite short < 20 miles so might explain why it hasn’t yet completed its cycle by now. Drive faster :D Shame if you can't, but my commute is only 4 miles each way and I didn't have any GP...

Re: Polo GTI+ owner - downsize to UP GTI vs upsize to Golf GTI
One thing about the handling that did annoy me about the Mii was that if you chucked it into a drift the traction/stability would kick in and it can't be switched off.
If the UP GTi is the same, that would be a bit annoying.
You should be able to switch these 'aids' off in a sporty version.

Re: Brand new Polo, Steering is offset
Steering wheel alignment is something I have real OCD about. One local tyre place I used to use, guaranteed if I got any tyre work done it would come back with a squint steering wheel. I put it down to the fact they used to use a ramp all the time and something about lifting the whole car off the de...

Re: Polo GTI+ owner - downsize to UP GTI vs upsize to Golf GTI
Not saying the Up is a death trap, but I doubt you or your daughter would fling that Mii around like people would expect to be able to fling something around with a GTI badge on it, and not come unstuck. The Lupo GTI was a true pocket rocket for its time, and 18 years later, VW's latest effort is w...

Re: Polo GTI+ owner - downsize to UP GTI vs upsize to Golf GTI
Very short wheelbase on a relatively tall car (relative to its length) and a high centre of gravity isn't really conducive to great handling. The Lupo was much lighter (Aluminium doors and bonnet), had great Brembo brakes and a great suspension set up. The UP has none of that. The Lupo was built to...

Re: Polo GTI+ owner - downsize to UP GTI vs upsize to Golf GTI
The UP GTI isn't worthy of the badge, should've had at least 150ps. The Lupo GTI from 20 years ago had 140ps. The Up feels faster than it is because you feel like you're in danger of tipping it over if you fling it around. Apart from the seats and steering wheel, there's nothing GTI about it. Just ...

Re: GTI+ MPG after 2 years - 5000 mile / 25mpg
Unless you're driving like a total twunt, or get caught distracted and have to jump on the brakes occasionally, the ID3's brakes don't have a lot of work to do, with the regen probably accounting for 90% of my braking. Makes cleaning the wheels a lot easier - hardly any brake dust. I flick between ...

Re: GTI+ MPG after 2 years - 5000 mile / 25mpg
Yes, my EVs leave all the CO2 at the power station. NIMBY. We're considering particulates so much now that particulates from tyre wear are under scrutiny now, as well as brake dust. I think we'll all be back to brake drums soon enough, as all the pad dust is captured. Supposedly one of the re...

Re: I've stopped servicing my car at the authorized service center - here's why
The other manufacturers take the same stance. My mate has a 2019 Civic R-Type. It uses almost a litre of oil every 1000 miles. Honda won't do a thing unless it uses 1.5l every 1000 miles. I'd consider use of 1l of oil between services to be abnormal. That's shocking, it practically makes the car a ...

Re: Changing into reverse take 3 second (manual)?
I can't help thinking the problem is the RPM taking too long to come down to idle.
Any car will crunch into reverse if the revs are too high.

Re: I've stopped servicing my car at the authorized service center - here's why
You must've been pretty unlucky or the fleet must have been subject to widespread abuse (like thrashing a cold engine). Most of my cars bought new have been VW TDIs, and only 1 required top ups between services (the diesels are below. 1999 Polo 1.4TDI 75ps 2001 Polo 1.9TDI 105ps 2005 Golf 2.0TDI 14...

Re: I've stopped servicing my car at the authorized service center - here's why
With regard to oil consumption VAG don't give a damn. We had a fleet of 2.0tdi engine cars at work, the best one used a litre per 4500 miles The worst one used a litre every 1800 miles. It got so bad we bought a 205L drum of miller oil to the right spec so the drivers could just top up from there u...
